Craig/Nick - History of 300zx.co.uk?

How did it all start? When? I was just noticing peoples registration dates. Eric in Jun 2000, Craig May 2000.

So come on guys, they did something like this on TT.net a while back.

Tell us a story...we're all sitting comfortably etc.

How did you and Nick get together to form the whole thing? Was there any romance between you in the early days? LOL biggrin.gif

No seriously, some people keep bringing up "back in the Bravenet days when this was just a BBS..." etc.

We're listening! wink.gif

I remember the old forum, Nick2demon.co.uk or something like that. Probably only 10 of us on it, put a question up and you`d get an answer within the week.

I think Craig wanted to do a forum so got together with Nico and created this one. Thats the basics i`ll let one of them fill in the details.

I remember those days I joined just after I got my Z and remember chatting to a guy called Nico who's Z was off the road back then but he told me "it will be fixed real soon!" wink.gif

Back in the dayz when Nico still had some form of life outside of work and had a car he was proud to call his own ( which would actually drive that is ) ....

Anyway going back to the early summer of 1998 myself and shorty ( chris short now Audi TT owner Muahahaha ) started to dig out a mailing list from the member profiles on tt.net for UK memmbers.

Back then TT.net was still really tight, Tim and Kyle were still fighting to beat each other on a daily basis - Jack .B owned a Z and some guy called RT answered every single post - However there was a lot of american bias stuff on there enven in those dayz - so

After chatting to some of guyz there was a market there to start our own UK site.

So i had a spare bit of server space with my dial up account and knocked out some simple pages and used a third party hosted forum software from bravenet.

Bob is correct the address which still live is :

http://www.nick2.demon.co.uk/menu.htm

Check it out for some nostalgic value - the forum is dead and the Frame loader got corrupted (probably by the other fool that used my space) so it opens up all the sections in a new window - the forum is dead also.

Most of the guyz from thos dayz are still here today in some shape or form. I remember :

Bob, DaveW, Craig, Hairsy, Shorty, Bilky, SteveE, Rodders, MBT ( Rest in peace dude ),

Johnny, Fingerpig Mark, Adrie, Henri, Maciej, Simon Pass and the rest - my appologies for any names that escape me.

Anyway yeah we averaged about 3 posts a day i think - even back then i was real busy and had to spend the odd month away from the forum. The Had a laff and unsuprisingly even got in trouble back in thos dayz with suppliers Altho Peter R went to great lengths to sort things out.

The site as you know it came into being thanks to craig really - We switched over to it when it was like 50% complete afer loosing the old one to a all to frequent server crash - And soon after switched the UBB system that we control from local servers. We have about 400 + genuine memmbers on this site now 5 moderators and no new content wink.gif - altho that may change one day smile.gif, Loads more posts a day, lots of knowledgable people and a lot of characters to boot.

And yes my car has been off the road longer than this forum has been in existance if that give any of you an idea of my PAIN !

Anyway that is enuff reminissing for one day hope you all find it ammusing in some strange kinda way....

Cheers for that Nick,

When I joined and people took the piss outta me for how long mine had been down at SE I never knew just how long yours had been off! biggrin.gif

When is it gonna be back on the road? Or will it end up like my Lanica Beta? Left in the garden as a compulsory purchase when I sold my house...ROFL biggrin.gif

RIP Lancia Beta HPE Auto 1983 2 previous owners and a genuine 49,000 miles!

I was such an idiot, car is a classic FFS!!!

It's a classic rust bucket - there's probably nothing left but the engine block and the windscreen by now ! biggrin.gif

You're not wrong Mr. P! LOL biggrin.gif

My Bro had a coupe as one of his first cars. Went like stink but was not exactly an Alan Minter if you get my drift?

Oh the joy of those BBQ's in the summer, out on the patio and watching the rust sprout in front of my eyes...ROFL biggrin.gif

Oh it WILL be back - all the doubters will pay when you see the Monzter in action !!!

I have had everything i need to fix it for like 12 months now - Just not the time been working 12 hour dayz 7 dayz a week for about 7 months now ! and all but weekends for about 18 months - you try doing that and keeping the friends and familly happy - It aint easy !

I have even take the poor Z between 3 different houses in the time it has been off the road - Dont worry tho mate - I aint plannin on leaving it to Rot ! - I fucking love these cars which is why i have spent so much time on mine !

Sunk a serious fucking amount of money into gettin it back the way i want it - Sure i could have rebuilt it to stock and put it back on the road in no time - however being a engineer i didn't feel confident in the overall state of the car from a safety / reliability point of view So i have done all the work myself and replaced a serious number of things to give me peice of mind about the build quality of the car this time around.

Few people on here have much of and idea of the spec and whats changed on my car - I have probably spent around 5K on mods and about half again on replacement parts AND i still need a new Fuel pump and one new Alloy frown.gif

It will be back for this season and altho i have another high profile venture on the horizon i will be sure to make at least some of the events this time round !

Should be on the road for run in test by 10th Feb !

Bravenet, ahhhhh those were the days. Memories, memories:-

Nico used to drive a Z back then.

wink.gif

How you doing mate?

Dave

Blimey! how things have moved on! Ye olde Bravnet! Nice to see people have still got their Zeds from when it started up as well!

Long may it continue!

Yeah guess its all easy taken for granted - but I for one enjoyed that stroll doon memory lane!

Tim - LANCIA HPE!?? I bought one of these 10 years ago for 200 quid - no way it would pass an MOT - you could see daylight through every panel LMAO! what a car tho, that twincam ravhappy engine was great - I had some real fun in that car (albeit illegal) -

I also had a Fiat supermirafiori (or whatever the hell they were called!) - I still LOVE that Fiat/Lancia twincam engine.

Oh those were the days mate, no farking quad-cam, double-turbo, fourwheel-steer nonesense LOL - just a great engine/shite bodywork.. I swear you could peel of the metal on Lancias and use them to skin up a joint they were so thin.. god rest em all!

I've never owned a Lancia, but my dad had a Gamma - bloody hell was it quick!!

I had 4 HPE 2000s (2 for driving, 2 for spares lol). I blew the first one at 140mph (yes, that was a genuine speed worked out from the 7300rpm not the speedo which had gone past its 120mph top speed and the needle had stopped when it reached the 0 pin). It was worth it for the look of the pillion passenger on the back of the unfaired motorbike that was racing me at the time. Sheer panic, I could almost smell it from my car LOL

I'm still undecided as to whether my Z is a better car to drive, its a close thing, the Lancia engine was superb (I still have a slightly modded 2100cc one in my Westfield and it makes my Z seem like its on a Sunday afternoon stroll). Roll on summer
