I "think" you need an additional earth. I had to earth the negative feed to the Metal DIN Chassis before I got any power on my in-car screen.

cool. so wire in a second earth, from the metal stereo casing to an earth point on the bare metal of the car??

Yep its the earth, just fitted a new sterio to mine today (or yesterday as it is now) and spent 3 hours playing with wires till i checked the earth, and hay presto!

...and don't do what I did...

spent 5 r ten minutes trying to figure out what I had done wrong as there was no power to my new headunit after replacement.

Guy walks into workshop, I'm cussing the thing upside down, every day a feggin adventure with a Z. He says

"you know, most stereos I have come across - you have to turn the ignition key at least to the first stop to get it to go"

DOH

Turned key, as if by magic, stereo on.

It's piggin sore when you slap yourself repeatedly, you know.
