Hi everyone. My headlight bulbs keep blowing - sometimes it's one...then it's the other. Is it me? Am I doing something wrong? I've had a poke around this forum and don't SEEM to be able to find a similar fault...but I'm a noob and a bit of a 'tard. Any help would really be appreciated. I've found some cheap (H3C) bulbs, but it's a pain to keep ordering them from Hongkong (£2.01 per pair, £5.99 postage and 1 week to arrive)! This is my first ZX, and without doubt the greatest car I have ever owned, so if I have to, I'll just keep buying bulbs till Hongkong runs out of them...

In the meantime...HELP!

Hi. Thanks. ..no, I took great care not to touch the glass. I know I could modify - piece of cake, really, but at £7.00 a PAIR, these bulbs are cheaper than Halfords. I just wanted to see if there was a common problem here before I start mucking about with the loom. It's cold, and there may be wolves about....

oh. rainy wales is where I am at the moment.

Typically 100w bulbs blow quite frequently, but standard 55w ones should be fine. You may have a poor earth or something like that.

Speak to Danny at DTA, he's quite up on his Bulbs. :)

Cheers Si!

Yes, I've heard that certain bulbs blow quite frequently - has to do with cheap materials, poor craftmanship and varying temperatures and humidity. Nothing you can do about that other than buy different bulbs.

For about two years I've had 100W H3 bulbs fitted in my JDM ZX without ever blowing a single bulb! When modifying the bulbs it is important to (a) not touch the glass - but you knew that already ;), (b) make sure the solder you use is high temperature resistent and makes good contact with the base plate, and © ensure you connect the other end of the wire to a good earth point - if necessary use sandpaper to get down to the bare metal.

I'm about to start selling a number of different bulbs for the ZX (both normal and uprated ones) and will provide a modifying service as well. Not much good for you at the moment as I'll be away for a week but perhaps keep us in mind for the future. Oh and if you really want to see where you're going at night then buy a H.I.D. kit - we sell complete plug-n-play kits that'll make your eyes bleed! LOL

Good luck,

Danny

ok, fellers. thanx for all that. i guess it's HID time for me - gunna hafta wait 'till after chrimbo, tho....

it looks as though my loom needs attention first - i think there may be a correlation between rear screen-heater use and the popping of the bulbs. hm....

anyhoo, it's my Z's only problem, and it's one i can live with. wow! what a car! weeee!thanx again all!
