Hi all,

I'm debating buying a 1989 ZX TT soon & using it as a daily driver....

Now i'm going from a Toyota Cynos import 1.5 NA to the 3L TT so running costs will obviously go up....

But my question is - how many of you run your ZX as a daily driver?

I currently drive about 20 miles to & from work daily but i'm going to start site visits soon.

Be prepared to pay in the petrol department! despite it been a small journey, the 300zx is my life no doubt, but can be a real killer in the fuel stakes for the average joe, especially if you will be doing site visits as well and stop start traffic work.

Working on the car yourself will make some savings, good advise from here should make that possible if you have the tools and ability.

Daily driver...mmm? well I think if you can justify the fuel then go for it as the rewards are just sooooo good.

Mine (a TT) is my daily driver and I do at least 52 miles a day during the week. I average about a tank of Optimax a week, which is £55-ish.

Get a cheap runaround then you can insure the

zed on classic as a second car and what you save

on insurance pays for the runabout.I did

I use my J-spec TT as a daily driver, and it costs a fortune, i do regular short journeys, stop/start, and lots of traffic in my area, i get around 10-12 miles per gallon of super unleaded, but i dont care coz it so much fun :hyper: , but you also have to bear in mind that it will need more regular serviceing than normal.

This is a frequently asked question and the last time I replied as always ..everyday driver. But now i'm beginning to use the van during the week as much as possible. I drive approx the same distance as you but after my pothole incident I really want to reduce the mileage i'm doing and keep her clean for the weekends.

My zed has been a daily drive, but it aint anymore. I locked it up for the winter tonight. Nasty salty car killing yuk.:(

i use mine as daily driver too 20miles each way £60 per week is an N/A tho

Well i must admit i'm debating keeping the Cynos anyway so i might just do as you guys suggest..

Stella - its a z31 as far as i'm aware...

scotty - nice Siggy mate ;)

i used to run a PUg205Gti as my daily drive, but its a little money pit, so i thought sod it , why keep the Z for summers and weekend drives only, since its such a waste, its not going to appreciate in value, only depciate, so i though may as well use it and enjoy it. so my Z has now become my daily drive and with Biz class insurance been at only £450 fully comp, then it becomes a no brainer really, as everyone has said, only down site is fuel, but hey the good far outway the bad.....

the Pug will end up been my weekend toy when i finally get the running sorted, ironic or what.... :headvswal

mine is a daliy drive (tt) and is far cheaper than running my previous car 2.6 starion widebody, and a 400bhp skyline. i put about £35 in a week and do 150 mile.

Cheers guys.

I worked out i'd be covering roughly 6000 miles a year to & from work, so classic insurance is a good idea..

what kind of quoats am i looking at for 25 year old - 3 years NCD 0 pointsor accidents?

I uses my TT everyday and find it's better on fuel than my Supra was, due to the Toyota being an auto I guess

if its a TT then its a Z32. my Z has been a daily driver for over 2 years and although it makes for good fun driving to and from work/shop/whatever, it costs a lot in the petrol department and youre stuck for a ride should she break down on you.

Welcome mate....im 24 and 0 NCBS and i pay £780 fully comp on a 10month scheme with Elephant but thats notifying them of a few mods....i think it was £650 standard.

oh and that includes an accident :slap:

HTH.

Dan.

Mines been doing hundreds of miles up and down the country as a daily driver and has been faultless, not horrifically expensive due to the motorway driving, and sooooooooo much fun. At the moment though I'm driving about fifty miles a day around towns and country lanes, the country lanes are great but the towns are horrible to drive around. The petrol consumption in these circumstances is scary as its really hard to keep off boost in start stop traffic and windy roads. I reckon it goes from 25mpg on motorways to around 15mpg or less in town and on the country roads. I'd recommend keeping your old car for a run about but it is great fun using the Zed as a daily drive, and its not going to gain any value sitting around in your drive or garage. Dave

only go on my last quote for classic cover, i got it at around £290, but i was 32 at the time, and limited to 5,000 miles. as for NCD it shouldn't really matter with Classic since you can loose your NCD if you only insure classic anyway, since classic doesn't accrue NCD. hope this helps. btw insurance was via Heritage, but i've always found Bell to do good cover if you need Full Comp with Business miles etc then just under £500.

ok get the thing cus u know u want it no matter what be like us enjoy the ride dont look back. im 21 and am enjoying what you call a zx experience. it seems u may just be able to afford it.

like been said many a times keep 1000 on the side 50 pounds of optimax a week for 200 miles and youll be laughing i havent got a clue about ur insurance. what else you worried about????

Good advice there from Dave, the Zed is a right Royal (excuse the pun!) pain in the arse fuel wise if your just running it about the town but on a good run the fuel economy is very good compaired to most cars... I use mine as my daily and only drive now and roughly spend about £30 a week on it which is going to and from work 5 days a week (This is what kills fuel consumption stoping and starting all the time!) to the shops and general travelling around.

I use mine as a daily driver (when it's not being fixed, been 3 bloody weeks now!!!) and I've found it to be surprisingly economical. I used to drive from bournemouth to ashford in kent and back every weekend and it would only use just over half a tank from full.

yeah deffo the best option i keep the zed for weekend and nice days and insured on classic for £300 so i use the audi for a runaround, petrol will be stratospheric for ya expecially if u use optimax like most here do

Bahh - can't insure her as a classic due this Zed being an import....

Adrian flux wants over a grand FC with a 300 quid excess.
