..but it only seems to happen when I put the lights on!!!

I am guessing that this is my slaternator belt slipping cos when I turn the light off,,,the screaming stops!!

Or is it the alternator instead??? :(

I have noticed it has started to split in places...so will get it replaced...makes a helluva noise when I start it up tho...soon goes away...

If you can get under the car just whip off the plastic undertray and you should be able to see the adjustment screw. You have to undo a locking screw first but its only a 10 min job. Dont over tighten, I think you should have about 10mm play on the longest section, but do a search and check that first.

change the belt first cheapest option , if noise dont go away , its the alternator under load they can sieze up a little happened to me in me carlton, just mho, hope it helps

Mine has always squealed on startup for a few minutes, it then stops as it warms up. I was told that the belts get brittle with age and do that.

reason when putting any extra load on the engine it will squel,no need to change belt just set correct tension, but as paul says if its looking frail change it,as this also spins on the waterpump pulley if it fails guess what water dont pump :D
