Can anyone tell me how to remove a standard leather gear knob from a UK manual. Have tried allsorts even as far as taking the surround out and looking underneath!! I thought it would be a standard screw in but is too tight for that even with glue. it turns a bit but then gets tight again. Am I just being stupid?!?!?!?

Wrap it with cloth then take a set of Stilsons(PIPE WRENCH) It will soon unscrew, only threaded on but probly has still got the thread lock on it if it has'nt been took off before.

This is the only way, you have to wreck it.

did take me a while... but once you get it started it gets better, i used a oil filter chain wrench thingy as it bites into the leather to stop it sliping!

Just have a few pints of stella and think of somthing that will piss you off and go nuts on it :duffer: :duffer: :smash: :duffer: :smash:  :duffer: :duffer: :hurl:

go to the gym .build up the biceps and it will come off easy :))

Mine didn't, I wrecked it getting it off. I had to cut off the leather and the rubber to expose the metal underneath and attack that with a bloody pipe wrench. Heating it didn't make and difference. Once the bloody thing was off though, refitting and removal was dead easy, I just couldnt break the initial seal/glue/locktite stuff.

Just give it some elbow! It will soon come off!
