Just fitted new ECU from Andy at Supercarparts and there is now something seriously wrong ...

Seems to start ok but when I put the foot on the throttle it seems as though I am running out of petrol..it judders and stutters and I cannot go above 3 or 4 mph. The revs drop to a very low level and then shoot up and then drop again...

Something seriously wrong here.....

Anyone got any ideas? The ECU I got was the full box, not just the chip so it was a fairly simple swap...

HELP!!!!

im sure there are other possible causes mate, and although youve replaced the whole ecu unit, its worth checking that the eprom is in the right way around (just a stab in the dark as if its the wrong way around it can knacker your engine). open up the gold box, locate the eprom on the board, the semi-circular indent at the edge of the chip should be facing the centre of the board and not the edge.

I had a standard ECU and the one I have is a JWT from Andy...

Just a quick question did it happen as soon as you fitted the ECU ?

Have you got the old ECU u could put back in to try ?

I have the old one...id happen as soon as I put the ECU in, the car never did this before. I am gonna have to put the old on in as I cannot drive the car as is.

The car has no real mods apart from the boost jets and bleed valves fitted by SE Nissan...related??

I had similar problems after replacing my ECU. Turned out to be the blue terminal block was too tightly screwed to the ECU and some of the connections were bad. Make sure it is secure but do not overtighten!

Yeah, try what people said here. Make sure the blue connector is seated properly, and if the problem persists try the old ECU again. Does the engine warning light show anything ?

I have done as suggested but still the same. Loosened the connector a little still cr*p. Put the old one in and it is fine...dodgy ECU?

It's certainly possible. I'll send you a different chip to try in it.

Thanks Andy

Actually, if you could bring it over to my place today (near-ish to Stansted) then I'll take a look at it for you.

That would be good, won't be able to do it until late though, or tomorrow if possible?

Sorry, I'm away tomorrow. What do you mean by late ? About 16:00 would be the latest for me as I'm going out.

Where about are you and I will try and be there by 4?

If you dont make it to Andys by 4 I could meet you at Colchester early this evening, been through the same as you and willing to look and help.

Cheers mate, if we cannot get it sorted at 4, will let you know.

Do you have any details of the chip?
