when I had the tracking checked this morning, I had a look under the car. There is some oil weep and stain at the back of the engine where the oil filter is, I couldn't determine where the oil was coming from. It doesn't (hopefully) seem too serious as no drips fell and my driveway is oil free.

Anyone know where it may be leaking from and if it's potentially disastrous.

cheers for any info.

common leaks at the "back" of the engine:

-rear main crank seal (drops of oil on the area where the gearbox meets the engine)

-L/R exhaust-side rocker covers (drops of oil on the turbo housing)

-oil return line from either turbo (drops of oil on the return line and oil pan)

If it's near the filter it could be from there. Have you changed it recently? If so it may not have been replaced properly. Or simply the area may not have been wiped clean after the change.

If there is no obvious oil drips on your drive then don't worry yet - keep an eye on the situation over, say, a week and see if it gets worse.

thanks for the help guys. I've not changed the oil since I've had it but will keep an eye on things.

the cars going in for a service next week so will see what they find.

normally the main seal is the culprit, best thing to do is if you need a new clutch if its a manual to get it done along with that,as its gearbox out unfortunatly,as richard says keep an eye on it if gets worse get it checked
