Hey everyone

I am a new member and I am planning on buying a TT this Thursday and I want to know what to look out for. Its an import from Japan and has 97k kilometers on the clock and it has a single big exhaust. Please help a newbie.

Thanks

idealy get a member of the club to go with you if you can,

check for rust on the sill, rear wheel arch and around the bootlid, (even if it is a jap spec)

check the brakes, as these sometimes get neglected and they cost a bit to replace

start it from cold, it should idle at aroud 1500rpm for the first few miles of driving and then drop down to about 750rpm

leave it on idle for about 5-10 minutes to see if it is smoking,

run an ecu check

ideally take a member, better still if they have a conzult :)

Great stuff. When should the turbos be replaced? I read on a website that they should be replaced around 60k miles. Also how much to convert to miles instead of kilometers

Replace the turbos when they need replaced! Heard this "you have to replace turbos at 60K miles" myth before, total BS! some people running stock original turbos on 100-150K

All depends on how it's been treated.

If you can find a UK spec speedo, the Jspec one simply unplugs & plug in UK spec!

also same with US spec, but they 'only' read 160mph ;)

Erm - have you seen a Z yet?

they are twin exhausts - one from each turbo on each side of the engine.

HTH

surely they don't all have to have two exits though? and what's all this HTH stuff about? :)

hope it turns out ok mate!

Yes I have and thats why i'm asking about this one having only one exhaust. Sounds like it may be a problem or a Japan thing

It's not a problem. Many Zeds have a single exit big bore exhaust. The downpipes simply merge into one pipe...

it still has a Twin exhaust system (one exhaust each for each turbo), but its aftermarket and joins into a single exit near the rear, quite common.
