Hello everyone. I will be visiting London soon for work (2-4 weeks depending on conference outcomes) in the month of November. I was hoping some people here would be so kind as to point me in the direction of some good food establishments and sights to see. Here is the address of where I will be for work, and I will likely be staying close by in a hotel. Thanks in advance.

may i suggest something along the lines of http://www.multimap.com, put the postcode of your hotel in and then there will be listings of resteraunts, pubs, bars etc.

Here ya go matey, just the ticket! Clicky clicky!

It would be good if you have a Laptop with internet access. You could then let us know where you want to go buddy. and of course when.

Stay in touch. ;)

Of course :)

Thanks for the map, but I was hoping for 'personal prefernces' more than a map of the area. The map will help, though, since this is my first visit and I am sure to get lost!

I will have a laptop with me, so I'm sure you'll hear from me when I get there......thanks.

heh, I did the same when visiting Florida, got loads of help & info from the SW Z Club - even pointed me to the location of a Shootin range to spend the day letting off an m16! Unfortunately I had just missed the huge meet :(

But they did welcome me for the next one! :D

Can't beat McDonalds!

Actually, you can and it's quite easy. ;) Loads and loads and loads of good places in London. Depends how much you want to spend.

Best off getting out of the big city and exploring the countryside and visiting some true country type restaurants/pubs etc.

I used to work in London, but really couldn't give any great tips on where to eat & go, but if you are near the Barbican Centre (allegedly is some sort of arts centre!) there's a cracking wee Italian restaurant near it!

Can't remember the name of it for the life of me! but is opposite 'Safeways' - Just ask anyone where the barbican Shoppingcentre & Street market is, once you find the Safeways (like a small Walmart) it's directly opposite it!

Cost doesn't matter, this trip is paid in full by my company :)

Thanks for the tips so far everyone, is there a meet going on those weeks? I guess I could look to see if there is a meet forum........

Pubs outside the big city.....that sounds like a weekend only thing, cause I might not make it to work in the morning!

oh well in that case....Nobu...The Ivy...Langham's...Bibendum

the world is your oyster...enjoy

:D

Problem is that almost no-one live in that part of London - it's almost exclusively business. A good hotel about a mile from your office is http://www.fullershotels.com/frames/1013 I haven't stayed there but any hotel run by Fullers should be fine and at least you'll be sure of getting a decent pint.

To meet real people you have to move out of town. The various meets are good excuses to do this :D IIRC there's also one on the first Tuesday (?) of each month at the world-famous Ace Cafe on the North Circular.

Hope that's a start :D

I work pretty much there. I dont see any Safeways there! The closest thing to a supermarket is a Sainsburys but that's no where near the Barbican...! You've got me curious now... so I'll prob go hunt it down tomorrow!

As all Americans know england is small by comparison but still is a wonderful/beautiful place. So dont just stick around london. Get out a bit and venture further afield. We dont have Hillbillies here so you will be safe.

lol about not having hillbillies.......

I do plan to juncture out a bit while I am there, but the chances of me going too far during the work week are minimal since I know I'll be at work early and late.

To answer a few of the questions, I am from an hour south of Chicago (hillbilly land lol) and the company choses our hotels....since they have corporate deals with a good chunk of them in the area. I would love to come to a meet, that would really be awesome....so hopefully something decent is going on while I am around.

Now for my questions again, how will the weather be in 3 weeks? You say crappy...but how bad? And what the hell is a brolly???? I am guessing umbrella? Ah, I am in trouble when I get there with the language, i can tell already :D

Oh, forgot to add that I love all types of food...steaks, Italian, Chinese (since I am part)...you name it!

Ah, I am in trouble when I get there with the language, i can tell already :D

Stay away from Birmingham Liverpool Newcastle & Scotland and you'll be ok
