thanks is it ok to drive

oh and if i decat it will it fail its mot

mine was fine to drive, it just lost power every now and then when throttle down, burns fuel at the start loads as well. For that reason as good as any, get them cleaned or taken out!

There was a thread on here, apparently if it's a certain year, it's not on the emissions database, so its treated as a car with no cats anyway, have to check that though.

Jeez!

The cat overheat light means there's something wrong?!

Just removing your cat ain't going to fix it.

Usually caused by misfiring etc so there's unburnt fuel getting into the exhaust or it's running very lean which could cause engine damage.

Cars before 1992 (I think?) do not need a cat.

After that date, if you've removed them then it's an MOT fail.

this site is cool thanks i have got some one to take the cat out tomoro and clean it and its booked in for a full service one thing is there only one cat and i noticed a smell of petrol now and then so might this be to do with the cat as well

yeah mines a 92 it passed mot as they can only do a visual test as they dont have data sheets for em :) (and i cant see many garages having the right data sheet for a jap anyway after 92) but yeah if ya cats are overheating then you have another problem especially if runnin lean as chrisc says could cause serious damage!

pre 1992 is ok , after that i beleive it must stay although ive herd some have done it anyway and past no problems

Yes, no problem so far (although MOT bloke did comment on it)

You might as well go clean your dog while you're at it for all the use that will do!

There is NOTHING wrong with your cat so leave it alone! :headvswal LOL

The engine is running badly and either running dangerously hot or sending unburnt fuel into the cats which is why the warning light is coming on...

There are 2 cats side by side - notice you have 2 exhausts at the back ;)

A good service is probably all you need :)

if yer gettin a really strong smell of fuel u could have a leak if bad enough could cause a drop in fuel pressure makin it run lean however det sensor would prolly pick that up and cause saftey boost.do ya suffer a serous drop in performance?
