is there any reason why a head unit imported from the states wouldnt work over here? im looking at a few and the freq spacing is the same as here but im after a combined dvd style head unit (obviously play region 1 dvds only) but anything else that might be different/catch me out?

right, im not overly bothered about rds to be honest, i dont think its that great a feature... be a bit upset if the freq spacing causes that many problems.... anything that could be done to sort this do you think?

also does anyone know if multi region chips are available for us headunits?

I bought a Kenwood unit in Miami and you could change the frequency spacing by holding down 2 buttons when powering up. You only had to do this once (or if the battery was disconnected). It was a Kenwood IIRC.

This was about 10 years ago so I'm sure that many more manufacturers have this feature now.

Ive got a kenwood head unit that came with the car from japland. It only picks up radio2 nothing else. Frequency ranges from 79mhz to 90mhz so i cant even get radio1. (not that i listen to that pish anyway). Can it be alterted to pick up stations over here anyone know?

Yes, you can get a frequency band expander ... not expensive. Don't know which of the traders does these on this forum (I know I don't ;)) but try Luke at the ZCentre or pick up a copy of Japanese Performance Magazine and look through the ads in the back - bound to be someone who is advertising them.

Hope the above is helpful,

Dan
