is it right that my UK spec boosts to 14 on the dial, i read somewhere it should only be 7'ish. Does this mean the car is chipped, I can't see how because there's no controller.

boost can also be increased with boost jets - a chip wont actually raise the boost.

the stock gauge is crap anyway & should be measured with an aftermarket gauge to know if its accurate

the standed boost is around 9psi so are you saying your gauge reads 14 or your boosting 14psi, in any case the fact your car was chipped it wont alter boost only change the fueling map to enable higher boost :)

Uk gauges goes from 14- to 14+ but in reality you are only boosting round the 9 psi mark.

As has already been said chipping the ECU wont improve your boost :( only Jets or a good Boost controller will do this.

Give Chris at greddy a call and i am sure he would sort you out with a Boost Controller :D

how would i know if "boost jets" have been installed. Somethings definately been done, i've just been out in it again and the needle actually goes off the scale! I don't want to blow anything up.

underneath the throttle body hardpipes there is a pipe connected disconect hose and feel down it,if a boost upgrade has been used you will find a boost jet in either hose

..i know nothing....where's the pipes you're talking about?

SPOT ON! but are they anything to worry about?

As Paul C said, the stock gauge is crap. Mine reads 12 psi when it was only hitting 7. Get an after market gauge to be sure :)

I'm not bothered what the exact reading is, i was just concerned that it was boosting too high and may damage something. Sounds like it's nothing to worry about.

Hi,

My 93, uk spec TT boost gauge also goes to +14 when accelerating hard, as far as i can see it has not been modified in anyway either....

An exact reading is definately a concern if you have boost jets on the car. I killed my first Zed because of a bad stock boost gauge and not knowing any better.

Also boost jets are a poor way to increase boost anyhow as apart from inaccuracies and poor control of boost they also suffer spiking of boost which can cause detting if extreme. Strongly recommend some kind of electronic boost controller if you want to up the boost safely. If you don't have at least an aftermarket boost gauge then take the boost jets off (I've got a greddy boost gauge for sale as new :x: if you are interested!!).

14psi is fine on stock tubbies, the concern is do you have an aftermarket chip to provide the relevant fuelling?

watch out for spikes tho - jets can easily race up to 16/17psi then settle down to 14

is there any other way to test the pressure i have a digital manometer (plumbing tool) which measures mbar, psi and bar pressures, so if this could be connected somewhere it would give an acurate reading (just to see if my gauges are out and how far). also i cant beleave how easy these jets are to fit what size would you use for a safe boost. i just want to try it to see the differance before i get a boost controller (mine has been chip by john dixon)

Reading this with interest...........i have a Profec BII and running about 15/16psi max boost............... is the reading on the boost controller as good as an aftermarket guage or should i install one??

Dave

id say the boost controller is more accurate - aftermarket gauges tend to be 'out' a little (as i have unfortunately found out myself :( )

unless they're expensive ones that cost about £200
