Hi guys, i know that insurance has cropped up on several occasions but as you can't possibly drive your Z'd without it, it becomes very important. So i'd like to run this buy you.

I have an Audi A6 fairly newish and of course my Z'd. When i got my Z'd i swapped the insurance over from the audi, i assumed that i could continue to use the audi as i am fully comp on the Z'd but i've been told i cant. I'd like to use the audi for everyday use and the Z'd occasionally for work and at the weekends but all the insurers i'm calling say that i need a policy for each car.

Can i transfer ownership of the audi to my wife and drive it 3'rd party even if its not insured with her?

Anybody got any ideas as to the best way to insure both.

Thanks

Nope I am pretty sure it has to be insured by the registered keeper of the car for you to be able to use it.

I have separate polices for each car. However, I seem to get full NCB on both becuase they're from the same broker.

Insure the Audi as the main car, with the 300zx on a 2nd Car, classic, limited mileage policy..with the same insurer.

I have 2 cars.. and spent a long time looking into this.. the only way that you can insure two cars on one policy is if you get a traders poilicy.... very easy to get, all you do is say that you do pre MOT's for friends etc and you need cover for that, the cars do not have to be insured by anyone else, just have to have MOT and TAX, ring 08704585675, thats who im with at the moment,

Hope that helps :)

how expensive is this in comparison to a standard policy?

I think that's kinda dubious. I suspect the cover you get is strictly limited and doesn't include non 'business' related use. Like going shopping, going to the pub, driving to work etc etc

If you have a few more cars then you can get fleet insurance. I know a family that have about 5 cars between them and the one policy covers the lot.

thanks everyone, i might try the classic second car option but i will give Tradex insurance too.

I would like to know more about this, if anyone comes up with any more info, please let us all know!

I've had a look at our website, but can't get my head round it :o

Checkout the "Enthusiast" option on the webshite that Jock posted - may be what you need.

aha thanks... it's late that's my excuse lol

Is it just me that finds this picture off that site of a "collector" more than a little disturbing?

What does he collect? Your eternal soul?

He can have mine, its not like i am using it

you can have cars on the policy that you own, i have 3 on mine at the mo... and you can use those as a every day car! its TRADEX that im with

Bell Direct lets you apply full NCB to a second car - both mines insured for full business use.

Insure the Audi as the main car, with the 300zx on a 2nd Car, classic, limited mileage policy..with the same insurer.

I do this - my Rav4 is insured as my main car. Max protected NCB fully comp for £280 then I insure the ZX with Carol Nash as a classic, limited to 6000 miles p/a and occasional commuting allowed for £300 per year.

No NCB on a classic policy but at that price, with an agreed value who cares!

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

If you go for a trade insurance policy be aware that most campanies will only offer "Trade" value for your car if you have a smash/ total loss, unless you agree a value with them beforehand (Unusual with trade). Also, most companies offering trade policies will want to know what cars you own at the time of proposing. This is so that they can decide if you are asking for a trade policy because you have a high risk car which would otherwise carry a high premium if insured on it's own.

I had a total loss in 1999, not my fault. My insurance (trade policy) would only pay out trade value. I decided to claim the other drivers insurance as a third party and they paid out more than double (Retail value) what my own insurer said they would offer if I claimed on my policy.

(BTW my insurer advised me on how to do this and I was paid out by the other guy's insurer in 3 weeks!) My Z is insured seperately with Houghtons

This is just my experience, others with trade policies may have a different view but the acid test is when you need to claim!
