Hi to everyone! :D

Apologies for the length of this one, just trying to set off on the right foot of Zed ownership :hyper: !

We (Helen and Ian) collected our Zed last night, its a 1991 T Top Twin Turbo in red :p

We are both really happy with the car and there doesn't seem to be any major issues (she went through her MOT this afternoon after a pair of wipers and a new headlight bulb)

We have a pretty good working knowledge of cars, having worked with Ford Probes for the last couple of years and are confident enough to try most jobs ourselves. (We have pretty much rebuilt our other car completely, with electrical, engine and interior work being DIY all the way!)

Anyway, there are a couple of points about the Zed that we need clearing up and you guys came highly recommended by a fellow Probe owner, T-Pot.

We have looked through the FAQ and this is whats left unanswered up to now:

1) Having never owned an automatic before, is there any specific advice as to looking after one? What is the best gear oil to use and how often do most people change it?

2) I know not to flog the engine whilst cold and to allow a couple of minutes cool down after use, but is there any other tips for everyday driving that might help preserve the engine?

3) On the way home, I noticed that the cruise control didn't seem to work above about 55MPH. Is this some sort of limitation on the system, or do I have a gremlin?

4) Speaking of the Cruise control, I want to replace the bulbs in the two control boxes and the door switches etc.(I have just assumed that the mirror control and door switches are supposed to light up, mine actually don't) I have seen the link on soldering in LED's but wondered if anyone knows whether Nissan still sell the replacement bulbs (part numbers would be great too! :D )

5) I have a slight issue with one side of my Targa roof. The bit of trim behind the open lever on the passenger side is kind of rippled. Is there anyway to take the bit of trim off to sort it out or will I have to replace the whole pane?

6) Is there anywhere recommended for sevice parts. I know back in the world of Probe, going to Ford (or Frauds as we know them) is a complete joke, but are there any particularly good online supliers around?

7) I am interested in converting the car from KPH to MPH, does anyone have any useful tips or information on doing this job?

8) Are there ary diagrams on how to wire in a Turbo Timer?

9) AND FINALLY........Is it possible to get another cool key cut, the same as the original?

MANY thanks in advance for your help, I'm sure we'll be back again soon with all sorts of stupid questions for you all to laugh at!

...... having worked with Ford Probes for the last couple of years ..... We won't hold it against you ;)

.....

1) Having never owned an automatic before, is there any specific advice as to looking after one? What is the best gear oil to use and how often do most people change it? .....Assuming that you have a Jap import (Looking at Q7), then invest in a Auto Box Oil Cooler, well worth the money (a couple of our traders do them (Look in the Traders section)

2) I know not to flog the engine whilst cold and to allow a couple of minutes cool down after use, but is there any other tips for everyday driving that might help preserve the engine? .... It's fairly robust, and should withstand most things you throw at it ;)

3) On the way home, I noticed that the cruise control didn't seem to work above about 55MPH. Is this some sort of limitation on the system, or do I have a gremlin? ... I'm not aware of a limitation, especially at that speed

:D ) ....Side pod bulbs should be available from most motor shops, not sure about the window and mirror switches, wouldn't have thought they are replaceable.

5) I have a slight issue with one side of my Targa roof. The bit of trim behind the open lever on the passenger side is kind of rippled. Is there anyway to take the bit of trim off to sort it out or will I have to replace the whole pane? ....Take a look At This Link , scroll down the page, and it shows you how to take the targa apart.

6) Is there anywhere recommended for sevice parts. I know back in the world of Probe, going to Ford (or Frauds as we know them) is a complete joke, but are there any particularly good online supliers around? ... Take a look in our Traders section

7) I am interested in converting the car from KPH to MPH, does anyone have any useful tips or information on doing this job? ...A couple of our guys offer to undertake the chip replacement of your ECU, thus sorting this out, and getting rid of the 112mph limiter, post a specific thread, and they'll sort you out. AndyP did mine.

8) Are there ary diagrams on how to wire in a Turbo Timer? ... If you're buying a new one, I beleive there are a couple of guides on-line. If you use the search facility on here, looking for 'Turbo Timer' you should be able to find what you're looking for

9) AND FINALLY........Is it possible to get another cool key cut, the same as the original? ...If you've got a Titanium key (all metal) then they are rare, but some have been reproduced recentley. If you obtain another one, then if you have your key number your local Nissan parts department should cut it perfectly for you

Welcome to the forum mate :)

Your question re the cruise control - I remember reading that it won't work above 90mph. So if yours won't work above 55mph I guess that's to do with the km/h to mph conversion as 90km/h = 55mph.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

welcome for OEM or aftermarket products speak to ryan z-tech in the traders section or MJP eastern

THANKS Guys for your help and advice :smw:

Now time to come up with a plan of attack........Starting with a cleanup and full service.

Cheers and Beers :duffer:
