...My zed has developed a sloppy gear lever. Now, it's just suddenly happened, so not sure if it is the bushes that have gone. Could it be anything else?

 

It's just from side to side movement, up and down movements are fine.

 

Any ideas as to what it is?

 

Also, my tailgate rattles and squeeks around. When you shut it, it never feels like it's shut properly.

 

Is there a way of adjusting this?

my gearstick bushes just broke up one day. They get brittle like everything else on these cars and just fall to bits. Fairly easy to do though, and cheap.

Tailgate is same also. Try moving the latch down a bit after loosening the three bolts holding it. This will pull the 'gate down a little tighter. Don't overtighten these bolts as they strip easily.

Bushes on the gearstick are well worth doing, not expensive and easy to fit. Once you change them the box will feel tight as a nuns crutch.;) Worth checking to see if thr rubber inner gator under the leather gator isnt split aswell. Once they split you get gearbox sounds transmitted into the cabin.

sometimes the bolt can become slightly loose causing left to right play,normally forward and back play is resulting from bushes worn

Must be the bolt then as forward to back play is almost non-existant. I'll take the consol apart next week.

yeh but change the bushes anyway as its fiddly so you may aswell do them they take 5mins to swap

I got a short shifter off Ebay for £47. When it arrive it was a genuine Nissan Motorsport shifter. It came complete with new bushes and bolt and self locking nut.

 

The guy is a trader but I cannot recall his name. The genuine Nissan ones are drop forged Veridium Chrome and have no gear nob. Only genuine Nissan or Nismo nobs fit.
