I'm looking at changing my brake discs, pads and lines soon. Been looking on ebay, and have come up with a few options, all of which from the US. They all claim to be Brembo, they are all standard size discs (rotors :rolleyes: ). And they all seem to offer the options of plain, cross-drilled, grooved or drilled and grooved, normally done in-house on a standard Brembo disc. So what do you think, are they worth it? Or is it a case of some cheap disc, in a printed 'Brembo' box? Would 'Brembo' be stamped into the disc?

TIA

Whoops, LINK!!!!!

I've read lots of stories of drilled discs cracking under hard use , so IMO Just grooved are better. Dave

I'd also get a quote on shipping to the UK as this could prove expensive - his shipping price is USA only).

I was looking at the discs on the Stillen website last year as they were pretty cheap compared to those available in the UK. Yet when they quoted the shipping cost, then I added the VAT/duty the final cost was more than 3G or Mike Feeney could supply them for.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Right, I've e-mail a couple of US based suppliers, and so far I've received only one reply, and it's not all that good!!

Direct copy of the e-mail received.....

attachment.php?attachmentid=13941&stc=1

That would work out at....

Global Express Mail..

F&R Discs = £125

F&R P&P = £159.56

Total = £284.58!!!!

or

Surface mail...

Discs = £125

P&P = £ 89.43

Total = £214.43

Still probably cheaper than genuine Brembo discs in this country.

Just get plain discs drilled or vented are all a calamity

reason the grooved variety eat pads,cause excesive noise,trap heat and gasses,and warp this isnt fact,but this is my experiance and customer cars iv seen the same story!!!

Have gone through this myself....

The conclusion I came to after asking loads of peoples advise has been Porterfield pads (Smithy or Ztech) Brembo blank discs (Ztech) the reason for the blanks as drilled are weaker.

All sitting in boxes ready to fit. Tomorrow's project if it's not raining..

you still gotta factor in the customes taric and vat that has to be worked out and added onto the postage you pay.. for goods imported from the usa..

Also, major problems waiting for a new set if the right ones are not shipped the first time.

This is a personal view........

I just would not bother with alternative discs unless they bigger than stock.

If your gonna keep to stock size keep to stock discs.

Pad material is all important and good pads are essential, they are a personal choice and I wouldnt advise on this list cos I dont know whats available.

I looked at this and even as a regular traveller to the U.S. they didn't seem good value as they are only stock discs and in most cases stock pads. The Brembo name sure has kudos but mainly for their upgraded multi-pot drilled disc set-ups and later OE stuff on trick japanese cars. The discs you are looking at are simply OE replacements. So I went for the full EBC sport disc set-up (4-off drill spotted - not through holes - and grooved discs) with red-stuff pads. I fitted stainless hoses at the same time. I am delighted with the set-up as I was totally underwhelmed by the stock set-up which was fade city. So if you are looking for a first stage upgrade from stock without spending mega money approx £400 is the total cost.......

Brembo discs have "Brembo" stamped on the rim.

I think that non drilled are less likely to cause problems, although my cross-drilled Brembos didn't appear to crack.
