Anyone got any tips....

I got a Jap ZX TT Auto a few months ago... Lovely motor if a little flicky at the rear.. And she really drinks fuel - i get about 15mpg (with optimax)

Are there any ways to increase the economy to make the car a more of a viable everyday drive?

Will a new Air-Filter and grounding Kit help?

What about a remapped ECU?

Any Ideas??

Get her on a Conzult, and check the O2 sensors. If one of them sticks/fails she'll be running overly Rich.

There is also an O2 sensor test without Conzult....have a search, should be instructiosns somewhere

I find my AFC does wonders for the fuel consumption compared to my last with no AFC. Zeds like fuel though simple as, especially around town. I get a lot more mpg when on motorways but it goes through the floor driving in urban areas! Dave

Whats an AFC? sorry a bit new to this....

hi mate where can i get my Zed on a conzult in the SW?

will get her serviced at the same time

cheers

AFC Air Fuel Computer. Adjust the fueling slightly across the range. I don't know if its just this that helps the economy but the car is certainly better than the last one I had, although that did have other issues.

how do i get the conzult and AFC checked and adjusted? is there anywhere near Bucks that can do it?

Sorry mate, the AFC is an aftermarket air fuel computer fitted as an extra. Didn't mean to mislead there. Apexi do them as do many others.

where can i get hold of one of those AFC computers? how much will it cost me do you recon?

oh yea... and how do i set up one of those pictures as my signature? i have tried but i cant seem to do it...

Prob best to speak to more people on here about what you need to do with it and how much it does actually help with economy. The Zed is very thirsty what ever. Mine was installed by the previous owner along with Greddy e-01 boost controller and mapped at Thor racing. Don't want you to run out and buy one on just my advice as I can't make a fair comparison. What sort of state are your fuel lines in above the plenum? I reckon my old one was losing some fuel here as I could sometimes smell it. The new one has smithys braided fuel lines.

Also theres lots of things that can make the car run rich (overfuel) that the more knowledgable on here can tell you about, faulty sensors and things like that. Consult is probably the best start point to check all these things, then think about what else you would like to do with it.

The sig picture needs to be hosted somewhere, photobucket.com are one site that you can do it on for free.

Fuel economy in the zed is pretty much awful no matter what you do. If you're doing a lot of urban driving I'd say the smart move is to get a runaround and not use the zed everyday, because it's really awful. In fact it's so bad I haven't even bothered calculating it, but I'd estimate at somewhere between 8 and 15mpg (either way, it's rubbish).

On longer distances it does better but still not great. I've got the 2+2 TT manual, and on a 200 mile run to my parents (lots of motorways), I got 26.5 mpg out of it, which is only 1.5 mpg less than the quoted value for extra-urban so I was quite happy. However, that's obviously still not great, and if you're doing a lot of driving everyday... I'd still get a runabout (or sell the zed, but you don't really want to do that do you?). The only reason I haven't done this is because, when I'm disciplined, I only use the car once or twice a week.

Of course, if you blat it everywhere you're going to get 15 mpg no matter what, so I tend to drive at least reasonably sensibly most of the time, and give it a real hammering only every now and then to keep the fuel bills half sensible.

Anyone got any tips....

....... And she really drinks fuel - i get about 15mpg (with optimax)...............

Not only will this depend on where you drive but also how you drive. A heavy right foot will seriously increase fuel consumption.

I used to use mine every day (UK TT auto) for a 50 mile round trip to/from work and would get an average of 19mpg. That was a mixture of town/fast a-road and some seriously hard overtaking. I have recently been using it almost everyday again for the summer as I missed it sooo much.....

I have seen 25mpg on a long m-way run on hols at a steady 99-ish, with the occasional silly moment :x: Yet the next few days driving very hard over the roads accross the Yorkshire Moors saw consuption drop to a mere 11mpg

Get your car diagnostically checked, but economy is not a factor owning a ZX...

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
