...what do they actually do? I'm guessing they govern some sort of crank case breather system.

I have a stalling problem with my car and fluctuating idle/miss. Now if I drive hard, then if I was to come to a halt, depress the clutch, the car would stall.

Is this due to PCV valves?

Sounds more like the aac valve (I think thats what it is called) ,it opens up when the car goes from high revs to low as you describe. Someone will have to confirm this though as I might be remembering things wrong. I'll have a look in the manual later and get back to you. Dave

Idle control valve. Not sure what they are like on Zeds, but is it a small reciprocating valve that's plummed somewhere into the inlet? Lets metered air into the inlet to keep it idling...gets all gummed up??? Am I along the right lines?

Here some stuff. Auxiliary Air Controller. Pulses on and off in different cycles depending on need. Should measure 10 ohms over the aac valve terminals.

Oh right, thanks, although not realyy understanding much of that. Is that for use via conzult?

...back top of the engine - just under those 2 blue pipes. bit of a bu**er to get at. Squirt the moving valve bit with WD 40 once you've got it off the car.

good luck

What I indend on doing as with all cars I've owned is to take it off, flush it out with carb cleaner, plug 12 volts to it and actuate it, then dab a bit of oil on there.

...normally via a rubber bung - and carb cleaner will do it. It's a standard item on this age of car - normally made by Bosch. You can get easy access to the sticking parts once it's off the car... difficult bit is removing it - like most things Z it's under loads of other stuff.

Good luck

...just thought - you might be able to get access to one of the tubes that feed it and squirt the carb cleaner down that. Might do the trick easier than removing the valve.

Might do, but other than a spoonful of oil down there, there's no sure fire way of lubing it up.

Might persevere at the weekend and remove the thing.

Thanks. :D

...what you've got to watch out for is when it sticks closed / open, it burns the contacts away on the small motor that runs it. From memory there's three (I'm short on terminology here) contacts (bushes?) inside that are very fragile and they can 'weld' themselves to the armature?

They can be pulled apart and botched-up. I used to keep old turocharged Saabs going this way - instead of paying the £120 Saab wanted for the part.

good luck

I do have an ICV from a V6 Vauxhall engine, if it's a Saab unit (which the V6 VX engine is) then it may fit.

...I think you'll find that they are the same piece of kit. They certainly look the same.

I'll have a look later and compare bosch numbers. No doubt they'll be different.

I though they were two pin connectors, not 3.
