I have been visiting the forum over the last month or so to get an idea of running costs and potential problems that 300 owners experience. The problem as far as I can see is that a lot of you guys seem to be spending a lot of cash keeping your cars on the road. I am getting the impression that these cars are not really very reliable and when they do go wrong you need to sell an organ to pay the bill. Is this a fair assesment? Are there any owners out there who have had no problems and only had to pay for routine servicing?

I love the way the Z looks and I love the idea of a 280 BHP TT V6 but I don't really want to buy a car that turns into a millstone round my neck. :(

As above, i very rarey saw more than 50 miles to £10..

I am prepeared for it to cost more to maintain than a Mondeo, I currently put aside £100 a month to cover the maintenence, tyres and tax on my 328. As well as this I would also hang onto the cash from the sale of the BMW, which will be around £2K, just incase of any major problems.

My biggest concern is that it will be used every day and will have to do at least 10k a year. Am I mad for considering a car like a TT Z for daily use?

Mine is'nt my daily driver, but there are plenty on here that do. (I think BlackMagic does 25k a year in his?). Fuel costs would be the biggest issue (plan for low 20's mpg with carefull driving, but it can go to half that when having fun or into the high 20's on steady motorway drives(apparantly;))

ive had my zed for over 2 and a half years........and the first 18mnths were a nightmare!!! auto blew up and so did the engine.

however, i have now had a manual conversion done and a new engine fitted (all done by zedworld) and i cant fault the car.

i did manage to get some money back from the garage i got it from, but it REALLY did my head in at the time.

the thing is i did what everyone on here tells you NOT to do.......i got a cheap one that i was "assured" was good by this particular garage.

it cost over £3k in bills. if i had put that towards the price of another zed i would of got a minter.

my advice is listen to what people have to say on here, and do your research.

...............by the way my now VERY GOOD zed is up for sale. look in cars for sale (username gaz300zx) ;)

(dont think i did a good job of trying to sell it here, did i??? :nelson: )

Not mad at all, sounds like you have got your head screwed on. Good to keep a bit of a buffer in the bank, you may go for months without the need of any repairs but then you may get a big one crop up on ya. Just remeber regular oil changes/service with a decent synthetic oil.

My car a was my daily driver and covered similar mileage and had little problems. There was a period when I bought an escort diesel to keep down wear on the Z. Soon got pissed of with that, driving to work in the sunshine in a shed when I had a Z at home?? F**k that.

Well based on 10K a year, 20mpg and 95p litre for optimax it works out at £180 a month which aint too bad. I spend £150 - £200 running my 328 which has been our only car. However my wife is learning to drive and I have just bought her a Ford Focus which means that my next car will do less miles than the BM which has done 32k in the last 2 years.

Trusting man. No way i'm letting my missus drive mine! Being Canadian they dont understand the concept of driveing 'stick' (as they call it). Especially RHD ;)

Na, she's a beaut but dont think she would appreciate her ass all over a car forum. ;)

Im not a Nova fan myself..... But im just saying... I like it how everyone on here seems to think the 300 is totally rapid.. maybe the guys pushing 450/500 bhp without the use of gas, this may be true.....

But in my short experience, the 300 is just a car for posing, you put your foot down, you risk it breaking... As much as i hate Supra's.. Id prolly go for one over a 300 from now on..

ooohh...Had to write now...Firstly as to say other half just got his zxt/t, and i'm loving it, had a Scooby b4, Yeh, great acceleration...no top end, not to mention the fact it had the need to get through clutches something chronic.

Secondly my brother has a supra tt pushing 500bhp, yeh its great but it cost him around 15k...

But the Z...MMMM...I dont care how much its costs to run, you cant compare it to many cars, they're not common and at 15 yrs old it still looks damn good!! And drives absolutely great...This girl loves hers!!

But to compare it to a NOVA....AAAHHHHHHHH

Paul WFX is talking about what was mine .... then his..... now mine again car.. as he didn't pay up, and she did well over 175mph and went like a rocket... i love the Z and its just a shame this ******* (fill in with your own) has trashed mine for 6 months.. anyway i have her back and will be running sweeeeeet again if all goes well!

Ill race his nova any day!!

oh and Devil.. i had mine for 2 years and used it every single day with nooo problem, just change the oil quite a lot and she will treat you well! :)

Until I decided to perform the V8 conversion and go heavily custom on the bodywork/paintjob my Zed was my daily driver for almost 2 years and in that time it only let me down once (knackered clutch slave cylinder which was an easy DIY fix). But then I made sure I took my time looking for one that was in A1 condition: a low mileage example that had been fitted with well thought out performance/handling modifications, with a well maintained engine and spotless exterior/interior. I forked out a bit more than most (brought mine over from Japan with Newera) but it has payed dividends in the long term.

Leigh.

170mph+??? HAHA! the SWB i had, had troubles getting over 160mph! And that was with it running right!

0-60 in 5.5? HAHA! The SWB TT i had wouldnt have done that on a good day!

Dude, are you on acid? I know its not accurate, but my GTech tells me my NA can do 0-60 in less than 6 seconds!

Devil, IMO the zed aint a daily drive. Like i said, i have an NA and i find that really expensive on petrol etc. However, i have still not had any kind of 'real' problem with it after 2 and a bit years. But, i realsie it is 14 years old and eventually something will go wrong. Thats to be expected.

Like the guys have said, if you buy a goodin youll be laughin! Make sure you take your time, read up and maybe one of the members will help you view some.

If you get a good example you'll have no problems.

I ran mine to 130K miles before she let me down. I did 80K running at 1 bar boost and thrashed her daily. Did 33k miles in first year of owning her and averaged 20k there on after. Over last 2 years being having extensive work done and will be running around 500bhp 400 ish RWHP and expect her to be reliable when I've resolved all my teething problems.

Too drunk to read anything past start of page 2, but...

I've had my NA SWB for about 3yrs, as a daily driver, and it's been barely any trouble. My worst problem has been having the PTU fail on me twice (both series 1...). I've even managed to pull the car through two years of poor employment (first year doing minimum wage temp jobs, second year in a call centre at about 14k), which has to be saying something, eh? :D

That said: I got lucky in getting a decent example at a good price; it's only an NA so it doesn't have the smile factor of the TT; although it's a daily driver, my commute has always been pretty short (15mins each way, say).

Probably other people have said it, but the key is getting a good car, and making sure to give it regular servicing & love. All the troubles you see on here are because people are more likely to be posting when something's gone wrong than when everything's running sweet, and perhaps cos alot of people on here have the modding bug :P

Best advice I saw on here a while back about costs, is to make sure that you have a k or two in the bank, just in case something terrible happens.

Bottom line for me is that the Z32 is a gorgeous car and makes me feel a ton of self-respect. I'm proud to have a 15yo car that has more modcons, and gets more attention and respect, than most other cars on the road today.

OK, so I wandered off the subject because I'm drunk, but I don't care! - I LOVE MY ZED!! :D

*staggers off*

I used my TT auto every day, 50 miles per day, until last winter when I bought a 4x4 for the snow, ice etc.

I had no problems at all.

Oh and that 0-60 in 5.5, there are several road tests of stock UK cars pulling 0-60 in 5.6 so it is not a myth. That fella must have had a duff one (or he couldn't drive)

These things will do 0-100 in just over 14. Not many cars will do that out of the box.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

   there's nothing wrong with her!! honest!

these are the photo's of her when i got her back after he abused Her for 6 months.... picture paints a 1000 words.... LOOK AT MY APEXI DISCS!!!!! :wack: :wack: :wack:

Run my SWB, manual as a daily driver and get no more problems than I would expect from a 14 year old car. She does a respectable 23-25mpg, looks good, sounds great and is kept going for sensible money thanks to advice and spares from this Forum and it's fantastic members.

PS Mr Brakedust - how is sunny Leuchars these days?? I spent a very happy 6 years there from 1988 to 1993

And what do u mean look at the paint, a few days ago you were telling everyone how much you liked the paint?!?!?!?! Your confusing me..

And after i abused her? I turned it into a show car Brett! I had numerous people congratulate me on what id done to that car, and how u used to drive it like a prat, hence why you were banned from the camp for dangerous Driving, a few of the RAF policeman have told me the same thing....

Just remember, u still owe me 3k, plus whatever the outcome is in court.. So keep spending the money liek its your.. it'll be you that has to get rid of your 'baby' when u get found guilty of quite a few charges...

Ciao belle!

You really dont understand.. Do u Brett?
