the car is in good condition. there is slight flaking of paint on rear spoiler, and small paint blister on drivers rear arch. tweed seats with light wear to drivers seat. air con needs gasing (although would prob do this).

 

i have got all the original tools, targa bags and targa roof covers.....still got the flare!!

I have a bit of experience selling cars.

Method that works for me is this -

Advertise at top price using Autotrader - say £5200 ono.

Week at a time.

Reduce by a few hundred each week until it sells.

My cars have always sold and I have been satisfied with profit on most of them.

Tips -

Have it SPARKLING. if possible, when being viewed - arrange to meet the buyer at say a McDonalds so he can follow you home. This makes it easier for the buyer to get to you without getting lost. That's the reason you tell them - real reason is you have already looked at the site. You turn up slightly late - increasing anticipation.

Their first view of the car is in motion, in a large area, and they get to see all sides b4 you stop. Make a point of pulling in, pass them, reverse into your spot. Ideally as the sun is low in the sky - less glare, warm hue to the light.

If they are interested, you'll see at least a smile. Best scenario is if the wife is there and she gets to you first and says "oh - that's absolutely beautiful".

I've done this and got that response - also got the money there and then.

 

Also - sort the wee problems. It's hard enough to sell a car. Selling a car with problems is harder. You are giving the buyer an excuse to walk. Not good. Not everyone is understanding.

 

Mods - difficult area - I personally wouldn't state any go-faster mods in the ad. Most people do not want to buy a car that has been driven hard. Even if that's what the car was designed for. Even if the mods were what the buyer was gonna add anyway. Even if the buyer intends thrashing the carfrom cold to the end of his journey - every journey. Most folks wanna buy a car that has been cared for, driven slowly and will last forever. I know it doesn't make sense, but this is real world experience talking. Almost all 4x4 buyers don't want a car that has been off-road!!!

Definitely get the aircon gassed or fixed - and make a big thing about it being ice-cold.

It would surprise you how many cars are out there with faulty aircon - don't make an excuse for it being faulty - make positive impact about it being cold.

Have an inspection lamp ready at home.

Soon as you stop tell buyer to look around the car, you will be back in a moment with a light. (take yer keys - trust no-one).

Take out the lamp and invite them to have a good look underneath.

I do this with every car. Then again they are all imports and are all clean and proper. Only the odd buyer takes you up on the offer.

You have just built up trust with the buyer. Psychology. :)
