Throttle pedal has been feeling a bit notchy for past few days, then yesterday it got stuck open at 1/3 throttle and would'nt release. Bit of a scary moment.

Tried pulling it up with my foot under pedal, going thru the gears (bearing in mind I was travelling through small residential road) before switiching ignition off and pulling over.

Took a look today and found the Cam cover breather pipe did'nt seem to be sitting properly in its housing and was rubbing against the throttle lingage.

I suggest everyone also checks theirs !

I would ask that this thread be "stickied" but maybe that isnt such a good idea cos if everyone else is like me it will never get read

Done lol :)

They probably think its sticky because someone got a bit too excited..... :hurl:

I wish i had read this post before last October, I had not long finished a major rebuild and this happened at full throttle dont know how fast i was going but was in 3rd gear and approaching a sharp bent which went over a bridge.

turned the key back but engine did not cut as i had wired the turbo timer wrong (did not earth to the handbrake lever).

Took off from the bank at the side of the road through a fence and landed in a field with a well bent wing half the exhaust ripped off and a broken windscreen and in urgent need of clean underwear.

Now cable tied and sealed.

Thats weird, they were shite on my Z i noticed I could move them as easy as anything when I changed the gaskets on the TB's but never thought about them hitting the throttle linkage and just stuffed them back in.

Defo worth people checking if it does that, had a similar moment in an old school M5 a while ago, but some twat had put a bolt about three times longer than it should have been in the adjuster and it was sticking on the linkage when you closed the throttle quick and it flicked back, coasting and braking + steering at a decent speed with no power isn't the best is it?

Just had this problem myself also :( Its quite scary, so i agree with the above, defineately worth people taking a couple of minutes to check these. Mine moved very freely  Bit of locktite and they are well and truely in there now :nana2: :nana2:

mine did this today just as a bobbie pulled along side me on a dual carraigeway !!!worse still mines auto and tried to take off so i switched to neutral and it redlined and by now my a@&e fell out so i turned engine off and ripped all the wires out my turbo timer lol copper was a bit of a petrol head though and fairly understanding!!! pushed the pipe back in and and the 2 x vac pipes it blew off and jobs a good un.

Jsut to add I've had this happen to me in the past but sorted it striaght away without too much trouble.

I was speaking to another owener recently who had it happen when he was racing another car at 120mph. He said he took his foot off the accelerator and it just kept speeding up. He overtook the other car (probably mouthing HELP out of the window). In the end he slipped it into nuteral (Automatic) but then for some strange reason turned the ignition off. He managed to get it stopped on the hard shoulder without the steering lock coming on.

Very dangerous indeed.

but then for some strange reason turned the ignition off.

Surely this was to stop the car bouncing of the limiter constantly and potentially causing more problems!! also if he only shut off and didn't remove the keys the steering lock wouldn't come on would it?

If he turnt his key the whole way around and pressed the button then the steering lock would of came on, it only wont come on when you put it on turn 1.

Yup steering lock would not come on. But Power steering and brakes would not work so well.

If this happens to anyone else at high speed, put it in nuteral and use the brakes, if you turn the ignition off your brakes are no where near as good.

SAFETY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE.. get yourself stopped safetly before turning off the engine. A car can be repaired...

hi again,zx eyes asked if the throttle had jammed, and it did'nt but i had got my leg in blippin the throttle,i'm sore just about everywhere.

bloody hell, I wrote of my zed about five years ago just after i had the engine re built I was going round a roundabout and just as i came to exit onto the dual carriageway, the next thing i know i was in the ditch,, I wonder if this was the problem because the car just accelarated all of a sudden it came form no where ,
