I have heard that you can lightly spray the end of the dip stick white? or even polish it.

I find it hard to read particularly when it's fresh oil and more so on a warm engine.

When I can't see it, I just place the end onto a piece of folded kitchen roll and see how far up the stain goes, before it soaks in too much.

Oooh errrr missus!

Probably has mate - I have always supplied the oil to my local garage. Exactly 4 litres each time, yet the mechanic always says "you need to add 1/2 litre when you get home"

It takes so long to drain back into the sump after running the engine that those unfamiliar with the ZX would most probably top it up too much. When I get home, leave the car for 15 minutes or so, re-check the level it is spot on so needless to say, I don't top it up!
