The restrictors mentioned on the jap model, are they in the manifold or is there a small down pipe u can replace?

on the manual to auto conversion is the differance that little because i have a nissan book quoting

0-60 as 5.6 manual and 6.1 auto which to me isnt bad for an auto

Auto's are quicker 0-60 off of the line fact :D

Autos are best for dragging and cruise, point to point or round town and twisties would be manual.

I'd tend to agree with this - when I was looking to buy a ZX I drove several autos and manuals and TBH the performance was barely different as the auto set-up is very good. Not like the difference between, say, a manual and an Auto Mondeo where the auto would be a lot slower.

Auto ZXs are supposed to be quicker 0-100 than the manual, which also suggests better (or maybe more consistent) mid range acceleration for overtaking.

you guys know more than me but as i have said before i am not impressed with the performance not for a car with 300hp (i think something is wrong with my zed). this is why i was thinking of a manual conversion, this and reliabilaty. my main problem is when doing 20-30mph following solw traffic i floor it to over take and it kicks down to 2nd and crawls past when i think it should be 1st i have been caught out by on coming traffic. any of your zeds do this, i think someone who has driven alot of zeds will have to have a go in my to give comment

There might be a number of thing wrong with your Z. Normal auto Z will kick down to 2nd and depending on whether you're in overdrive or not will determine your pickup rate. It also depend on the condition of you turbos and if you dont have boost leak

No auto kickdown to 1st regardless if its a Z or not - so take that of the equation.

If im doing 20mph in second gear (manual TT) and floor it, it will spin the rear tyres, snake a little down the road and shoot off like a rocket, and thats with Goodyear F1's and stock boost.

Have you done an ECU check ? Do you have aftermarket boost gauge to show what boost your getting ?

Mine too.

So long as the car is within the maximum speed range for that gear it should kick down to the lowest gear allowable.

Therefore assuming you are doing 20mph and floor the throttle, it should drop down to 1st and hold it until around 40-50mph before changing up to 2nd, and so on.

300 bhp was the spec for the usa market cars, to do with jap/uk and aus emissions laws, the yanks prob dont give shit about carbon monoxide in the air when they all drive 8 litre chevys lol

thanks guys i was thinking of changing the auto ecu as i have a few things with the auto i think is wrong and think the ecu needs to be changed to try

It's also worth noting it takes time to get used to the auto, how to launch, how to kick it down etc and control the revs / extend the gears. If used to an auto Z you can make it kick down and change up whenever you want. In my old one kicking to the floor past the switch too quick would not make it kick down, you had to feed it in and kick it down, and to change up you had to accel around half way, then ease the throttle up to about 1/10 and it would notch up. Launching NEEDS left foot braking, even if you dont pull against the brakes, going from full on brake to full on accel with one foot makes for a crap launch, you need to be off brake on accel same time or prime the accel so its ready when you let up on brake.

I remember when I got my first Z, I couldn't make it seem as fast or go as well as the previous owner, then when I got used to contorling the box and a feel for it, I could make it do what I wanted. When a friend of mine bought his Auto Z, he also had the same thing, couldn't get it to seem as fast or go as well as me lol. Bizzare it may be, but it's true!

The auto also has massively long gears as most autos do. You are looking at gearing for a top end of 200mph in only four gears, so one less than manual and geared longer! 1st is good for 45 easy, 2nd for 95, 3rd 150 and 4th beyond. Don't be affraid to cog it down manually, despite what some people say, this doesnt harm the autobox.

Also, TBH, 280hp in a Z does not feel like much, you are looking at around 160hp per ton, tired Z's will be more like 140+. Whack the boost up a few psi and it will become a different beast all together, with 15psi it will become an awesome machine, but just be prepaired to fix things!

I would say, get a general check over done on her to make sure she is good, and if she is, put the boost up a few psi and practice feeling the accel pedal.
