I can see your point as well mate .I think more bend ristrict air flow if anythink could me wrong .

Dual pop isn't needed unless our running serious boost and hp, if you run a dual pop you will need either one MAF and another dummy with the ECU programmed to compensate for half of the signal or dual maf which still needs mapped ECU.

Either way you wont need it unless your going for over 400hp and uprating shit loads else.

Depending on which types you mean when you say "twin", Steve-o quite rightly described the "dual pop" for it's advantages and when to use it, however if you've been looking at twincone kits, then that's slightly different.

The fact 2 cones serve just the one MAF is imaterial, object is to try and force as much cold air into the intake as possible in order to increase performance, the MAF doesn't max out until around 480bhp and with one filter which performs well like Apexi's do you get a fair amount of air into the system, however more air is better and whilst say 2 apexi's will not suck in excatly double the amount of just the one filter, together they will out perform just the single on it's own, yes the route of pipework towards the maf from twins slows it down a small amount but certainly not as much as the amount to equal air from one filter. I see your using HKS, it was in fact this company around 1992 that developed the 1st twincone kit through the one MAF for cars running the usual bolt on mods, but looking for that bit extra and if you could find their kit today it would be very very expensive.

The same concept has been copied basically by both myself and SE Nisstek.

Hope that helps

cheers

Just as an offshoot of this, my hks sits facing down at the front. It performs very well but when in heavy rain you have to stay at low speed else the car turns into a kangaroo! I think the twin cones help this problem by placing them in a little more rain sheltered position.

This is very true. I have smithy T-piece with 2 filters and because the are elevated higher I have no problem when it rains.

Friend of mine had the HKS foam induction kit, used to suck up all the moisture in bad weather and killed his MAF in no time, i'm not a big fan of them. My old car had most of the weather tray / splash guard cut out (not by me) and my Blitz one was just rusting where so much water was getting on it, so I wedged a plastic tray under it to help a little, and it worked for a while but needed to be checked every now and then to make sure water wasn't finding its way on top of the tray.

I think the design of where the Z's filter is, is a good one, it's just easily exposed to our poor weather.

Sounds like a good idea :)
