I have read this thread by JD and the link contained within and have found it an interesting read.

I also remember someone else posting about this but cant find the link anywhere...

Bassically Im fitting the Brembo upgrade and was wondering if I should pull that fuse on the ABS once fitted??

Ive noticed my current abs can start interferring on late hard braking and cause me to overrun anyway so is it going to be even worse once the skyline kit is fitted?

I know what the majority will say and it will be something like

"Dont be so fookin stupid"...or thereabouts

But I never have and never will like abs so should/can i get shot now and just rely on good old fashoned driving skill....

or wait till i have to hit the brakes hard on a wet motorway and watch the backend come round to decide?

But seriously...

Will it now impare the proper function of the abs system???

If so then its gotta go :nono:

All opinions welcomed fellas as I havnt the foggiest really

Just had an intersting idea from Hexaking....

I could wire up a switch to the abs solenoid so I could switch it off in the dry and back on in the wet...

Would this work?

Hi,

I would also like to know the out come of this, like you I hate ABS too.

Gerrard

What effect is the abs problem supposed to have. I've just fitted the r34 brakes all round (will post phots/howto tomorrow as have to go out). They seemed ok to start with, just needing some bedding in, but then started vibrating on slightly hard braking. I suspect that the discs need replacing but could it be the ABS? ps they certainly look the dogs danglies! a few heart beat moments drilling the holes out though but all ok so far. Dave

Sorry just been reading the article so I guess I need some new discs and pads. Oh well was hoping to get a few months out of these but still. Will see if they bed in for a few days maybe then get the new discs and try not to notice the overdraft!

rem my Audi Quattro Turbo had the a switch to disable the ABS for snow and the like work fine as far as I can rem. It was a normaly on push button thing "my guess cause when you needed it like everything in life it would be in the off position" :)

cause when you needed it like everything in life it would be in the off position

lol...so true

I hope it should work then...

I'll give it a go and test it out both ways...safely of course :smash:

Kewl idea ....

Steve, how are you getting your caliper carriers drilled out ? 14mm drills are not that common and probably don't fit in a standard drill with a 1/2" chuck anyway. Is you mate with the engineering shop doing it, or are you buying Chris double McD's & coke again ?

What you doing Steve? Turning it into a Toyota???

The car in front is a Black one

The car reversing into a field at 80mph as he forgot to switch his ABS back on is a black one :)

Andy....

I have the R33 ones which apparently dont need any drilling:-

ps...

That yellow beemer above is a V8 with a supercharger i think? or turbos but what i do know is that it had a 8point dry Noz injection and apparently it went a little bit quick :)

You could just wire a switch to the power line to the unit, probably through a relay, that would work.

I checked out with VOSA, and it's OK to remove the ABS as far as MOT goes, as long as you completely remove the actuator etc. the only parts you can leave on are the wheel trigger disks.

On mine, I'm going to pull the lines out that run to the unit, then put a new tee in the engine bay and run new lines to the front (it's front / rear split anyway). This will ensure the lengths are close to equal. and remove all that unecessary line. I'm pretty sure the stock Z crap pedal feel and that thing where you seem to need to press the pedal first to seat the pads is partially due to the system design.

You sayd that youd pulled the fuse on it...

Has it been ok since?

any scary momments or is it all fine as long as your paying attention?

It's been fine. Less scary moments TBH just got to be on the ball when braking hard.

I think the big problem is just that the system is poor to start with then dangerous with bigger callipars.

Did try to look at adapting a skline setup or find an aftermarket one, but was just too much hassle.

Bah ! Cheapskate !

I'll drill them out, it'll work out on way or another -cheers for the offer.

your right - it is ok if you completely disconnect for MOT purposes. may invalidate your insurance however if you dont inform them!! ;)

My ABS has been removed, i found that since that ive had a better feel of the brakes, but will say there has been a few hair raisng moments where ive locked up and didnt think i was gonna stop in time for the island, but the back end has never tried to come round, not yet anyway lol

Ok john..

Thanks for the info......

When you get round round to doing yours is there any chance of a picture faq on it as im a bit fick :(

I'll try that switch with a relay for now I think.
