Hiya...

Just got my Zed (Jap 2+2 TT) and it needs a new exhaust - big whole in it!

Should i go the whole hog and get a whole decat stainless steel system (been quoted 600 puid inc VAT and fitting)

But i dont wanna blow all the funds if its not worth it.. maybe just a second standand hand replacement??

The guy who quoted me for the exhaust said that i can decat a '90 ZX without MOT issues?? is that true?

Yes you can decat a 90 Z with no MOT issues, a stainless steel system is the best way to go, depends on what funds you have available.

Yes, you can decat your car but you risk developing a "smoking" problem - decrease back pressure on the turbo seals which will let through oil if the seals are old and knackered. Expensive to fix as you'd ideally need to remove the engine to get to the turbos and replace the seals (at which point you might as well go for new turbos at an even greater expense ...)

My suggestion would be start with a cat-back stainless steel system and then decat it at a later stage.

I can supply two styles of Mongoose cat-back systems for £495 including next day delivery. Style one copies the "stock" look, ie - twin 3" tips either side of the car. Style two has one 6"x4" oval tip either side of the car.

Both are fantastic systems, high quality, excellent fit and great deep sound.

In the event you'd like to go for one of these (or just want to have a discussion about the options) please give me a call on the number below.

All the best,

Dan

PS - don't bother with a second hand standard system

I've just fitted a Blueflame exhaust to my tt - Over the moon with it..

Twin 6"X4" pipes.

Cost just over £300

Used to make Mongoose.

...2nd hand mild steel - and spend the £580 you'll save on Optimax...

is optimax really all that??

u used to use normal fuel in my scooby and i could not tell the diffenance when i filled up with optimax...

Imports are mapped for much higher octane fuel, and I wont use anything but Optimax in mine (or on the rare occasion a little bit of superunleaded to get me to optimax garage).

Its not so much the performance advantage (although you do get a noticable improvement, and an improvement in fuel economy too)..but for safety reasons. Far less likely to get detonation, which will cause serious problems.

cheers for the advice... my Jap 300zx will get nothing but optimax from now on!! Now just gotta find the shell stations....

...Optimax is like driving with a tail wind. Ny Z's an NA and the difference between ordinary fuel and Optimax is very noticeable. Only problem is, so is the price.
