Any advise on components, power etc would be handy.. Please....

Full in-car computer, with 7" in-dash VGA Touchscreen (see items for sale section) , GPS, Satnav, Internet, email, MP3, TV, Radio, DVD and running Nissan Datascan ECU diagnostics.

PC is custom built, mainly to keep size down.

Uses a VIA EPIA Mini-itx motherboard in a Cubid 3688 case, laptop slimline Hard disk and DVD drive. GPRS/WIFI PCMCIA Card, Haicom 204e USB GPS Receiver, Haupage WinTV card.

For Power supply, you need to fit a PSU that can regulate a 12v input. I use a Opus 90w which regulates and acts as a Startup and shutdown controller with the ignition.

The http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin forum is an excellent site for Carputers.

Hooked up to a Creative Extigy External sound card, to Amp and speakers.

Legrath, are you selling the full set-up or just the screen? Interested in the whole lot if its up for grabs.

I'm in the process of getting the spec together for a two screen system that has the works as one's being installed in my car (it's being put together by one of the guys who runs one of the UK Cap PC forums). I'll post pictures of the end result when finished.

Simon (pk1): haven't heard back from you about the screens mate. Did you get my email? I'll be coming to you for the power supply soon when the shopping list for the Carputer project is finalised ;)

I've been toying with the idea of a carputer after seeing Legrath's screen up for sale, I hadn't heard of them before. I was thinking of getting a cheap laptop and sticking it in the boot with a touchscreen up front. Still unsure of best option at the mo. Do you think a laptop would be ok?

Absolutely fine (and has benefit that you can remove it at night for security). You'll just need a 12v Regulated power unit/lead for it.

also make sure that the Internal Video card, can handle a 800x600 resolution, as many laptops run at higher resolutions, which would make the detail on the Touchscreen to small for everyday use.

Got the first part of my carputer half hour ago. Dell laptop celeron 400 5Gb drive cd-rom 64Mb memory for free!!!!

Sorry Legrath I'd love yours coz it's a proper din one. But looks like i'll be getting a free touchscreen too, all I have to do is wait a few weeks. Gives me time to strip windows xp add a frontend etc. What software do you use on yours coz I really like the look of the mp3 player.
