Newby question here ...

Would the 3.5 litre fit the 300ZX ??

Is it worth it or is it just a larger bore, does anyone know of an overbored 300zx thats up to 3.5 litres ??

Or should I just get me coat ????

i would think if they can fit a chevy v8 in there its possible...but why would you wanna put one in?

Yeah why would you want to put a 350z engine in, you not seen clarkson dvd

a 300 tt blows a 350 away

I seem to recall thet ZFromJapan was going to 3.7ltr with the aid of a rebore and stroker kit, over on TT.net - though this was some years ago, and I've no idea what the final outcome was.

I do know that finding a good block that's suitable for radical overboring is very hard, and you'll need to do some metallurgical analysis on it (have it X-rayed and/or ultrasound tested for material density, hairline cracks and soforth)

As for the Z32 blowing the Z33 away - well, I imagine that's largely down to weight, since they both have (on paper) almost identical power..

I've no idea which engine has the greater potential though - only time will tell on the 350Z engine.

I have got to say it but I love the 350Z. (Z33) Andy's ol lady had hers there and I was chatting to her about it and she reckons its great. Any woman that can handle one of those mate is worthy of an opinion IMO. I would deffo replace my Z32 for a Z33.

I cant see the point in putting a Z33 engine in a Z32 unless its your only way out?

Not sure its worth it thats why I asked.

Im interested though in the two engines.... have they kept the same basic design and just overbored a little on the 350Z ??

the Z33 engine onits own has got to be @£6k....you can buy some seriously modded Z32's for that...after spending a lot of time looking into the Z33 option i have reckoned you'll need to spend @£6.5k getting a turbo kit on it which will put it up to @ 380bhp....total outlay @£30k...its granted you'll get a newer looking (more relaible ?) motor for your money but pound for pound taking into account the insurance and running costs of a Z32 and the fact they have reached the end of the depreciation cycle its poor value.....though each to their own...the V8 engine forum is in the links section...:)

No, I believe they are totally different engines.

Thanks Guys for the info.

Its not that im thinking about engine swaps as an upgrade just now its more a question of being a subject thats close to my heart. Im just interested in whats being done etc.

Cheers

Yup, the 350Z engine is a tuned Renault engine which they pulled out of the Vel Satis. Nissan badging, Renault engine.... :wack:

I wouldnt.

It would be the Z32 engine is much better. Infact the 2+2 300ZX is about 100kg heavier than the 2 seater 350Z

Exactly. The difference in straight line performance is down to torque curves - the twin turbos of the Z32 give a significant advantage in mid-range pull.

Look at the torque of any big-BHP n/a engine of similar size (eg BMW E36 M3) compared to a turbo'd lump like the Z32.

To achieve similar torque from an N/A there's no substitute for cubic capacity - that Vauxhall Monaro thingy has big torque but it's a 5.7 litre V8

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Our bayside blue demo Zed has had the engine bored out to 3.2L by Kakimoto in Japan. Thing goes like the proverbial of a shovel!

If you're serious about an engine swap take a look at the VH45DE. If you search on here you'll see a couple of people are doing it ;) Also look on http://www.hybridz.org and http://nicoclub.com/ for more information.

Hi danny

Are you saying that its not really worth going out to a v8 ??

Better off tuning the v6

What about for good old torque for fast road use at moderate revs ??

What sort of power has Kakimoto got his car up to ??

Its fairly cheap and easy to get 400 to 500bhp out of the standard engine so not many people replace them.

N/A engines will probably be more reliable in the long run but much harder to tune to anything like that power.

There's lots of cars in Japan and the U.S claiming 800bhp+
