I got a 300zx TT on tuesday gone. Everything was fine and dandy and I was feeling uber driving my new 300+ bhp beast. That was until about 10 minutes after I got it out of the dealer and she wouldnt start.

 

Long story short... Very tempremental with starting. And when im at a standstill in drive, and go to pull away, she stutters and tries to cut out. Sometimes she cuts out, other time she holds in their and flies off.

 

Any ideas what the problem might be? I'm trying to find a decent service centre in the hertfordshire region, but no luck. Anyone know of any?

Shes a 1990 btw.

PTU problems? Idle set too low?

Take it straight back to the Dealer bud, :nono: shouldn't be stalling if there had done a Pre-check before you collected, has it got a warrenty ??

Could be Maf, PTU or TPS.

Im seriously considering doing that. But i'm going to take it to a garage first. If its a superficial problem then i'll have the work done, if its a major problem then depending on what it is, i'll decide then.

 

Just trying to find a performance garage nearby, im in hatfield.

 

Lets hope its the TPS ;) Cheap to fix ay.

 

I'm a newbie when it comes to the workings of cars btw. Slowly learning though, I want to take good care of this car.

Sorry forgot to say. I didnt get an extended warrenty so standard 3 month for me. I phoned the dealer and they said if i take it to a garage i can send them the bill.

 

They didnt service it. I didnt mind too much because it started fine and drove fine when I test drived it.

 

As for the idle too low. I dont think its that because it idles fine. Just when I accelerate.

i had exactly the same problem with mine. i phoned the garage i got it from as they gave me a 12 month warrenty... they changed the plugs and found a split vacuum hose.. she runs ok now.

 

if they are willing to pay the bill take it to the best garage you can z tech is highly recomended http://www.ztech.co.uk ryan really knows his z's take it there and send the dealer the bill.. might as well take it to a specialist but what ever you do dont take it to nissan main dealer as they know fook all about these cars

Could be temperature sensor. That gives off those symptoms

I'de love to take it to ztech, but considering i can hardly get her started let alone move her i cant. The boss at a garage ive used many times says that his two head mechanics are jap lovers, and know a lot about these kind of cars. So for the initial repair, ill take her there. Then later i'de like to take her to ztech and put her on the Conzult.

Have you drivin it much....

That white smoke may just be condensation...Takes a reasonable drive to clear it all out....if its just been sitting around for a while it could be innocent.

It tends to smoke all the time, from startup to off. SHes been sitting at the dealer for quite a while, and I havent driven it very much at all, so I hope its condensation.

Where abouts in herts are you mate? Ive got a blown rad i think and im taking it to a guy in watford, unfortunately he's not a specialist but theyres only 2 in the south, ryan in swindon and someone else in west london..a bit far if u cant drive it!

It could be the 02 sensors fooked, does it pull away well over 3000rpm and stutter when cold under 3000rpm, but when warmed up runs better. I f you catch my drift!

Well I just took her out, If I keep her revved up over 2000 it doesnt try to cut out (extra brake wear though ay) And shes smoking lots (white) when revved mainly.

The turbo timer is set at 30 seconds, is that a long enough delay.

Still thinks it the 02's over fuelling, that could be why you are getting white smoke, although white smoke/steam is usually water, or you could have a gasget breach which is letting water in hence the white smoke all of the time.

 

You could do a diagnostic on the 02's. Check on http://www.300zx.org.uk for how to do the diagnostic checks.

I have no experience of zx's but generally white smoke on start up and during the warm up period is normal. However if it persists once the engine is up to temperature it can indicate a problem like a blown head gasket. Keep an eye on your coolant level. If it is going down then you have got a problem.
