The indicator on my turbo guage won't go past the +7 mark (safety boost?) and I can't get more than 120mph out of it. Has this been restricted? If so, how do I go about derestricting it? I've only had the car (91 TT) for a week and love it but after being used to a non restricted 200SX was gutted I cant get more than 120 out of the beast.

Any help always welcome.

If it won't go past +7 in the boost guage then you are deffo in safety boost mate. As for not going past 120......... :x: that could be the restrictor as you should (eventually - a fully fit TT will hit 150 before you know it....alegedly ;) ) get to 145 even in safety boost.

Do a diagnostic check - sorry, don't know the link, and see what error code you get. Safety boost usually points to det sensor.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

not if its a jap spec as they only go upto 7, as its read in a different scale

yep,a common head scratcher this its 7kg and not 7psi plus safe boost is 5psi init ;)

if its a Jap spec, then its limited to 120mph or 180Kph

mine's a jap spec, cant remember what the number is on the gauge but at full bost it should go up to the second last bar on the gauge

Well - thanks to you all. It is a Jap spec. The guage does read up to +14 and the indicator goes upto +7 which is the second last bar on guage. So it seems that the car is restricted to 120mph. How can I get this lifted? Any ideas?

u can get a de-restricting kit that intercepts the speed sensor signal and modifies it so it thinks its not going as fast as it is, from what ive gathered from here, theyr easy to fit, but not reliable and lead to problems with the auto box shift points etc, best way is to get the ecu chipped and to remove the limiter while your at it, as the limiter is a function of the ecu.

Right - that seems the next step. I suppose i'll have to go through a Nissan dealer ?

i have a j-spec 90 tt it will clear 135mph easily and it shoots up to the second last mark on the guage with plenty left and its a stock car not modded at all.

oh ! I'm totally confused now.........

you wanna go to a nissan dealer to get your car de-restricted :headvswal eeerr wrong move mate, just get your ecu chipped off one of our traders or buy a jwt chip and get it socketed in your ecu ,a tv repair man could do the simple job as ive had a couple done myself, iff ya want to get shafted up the ass go to your nissan dealer ;)

oh ! I'm totally confused now.........

the standard ECU chip is soldered directly to the circuit board. to replace it, it has to be de-soldered and removed. A socket is soldered in place of the chip and this allows the new chip to be plugged into the socket and removed simply the next time (if need be) to avoid soldering and de-soldering each time.

as mentioned, if you remove the ecu, a TV repair man should be able to do the soldering work for you and install the socket cheaply.

stay clear of Nissan dealers. you will be able to source most of the parts youl ever need from the traders on this board.

Fraser,

thanks a lot guys for all your help. I'll get this sorted when I'm back in England and hopefully I'll be able to push it past the 120 mark - that really did piss me off.

Try ztech, they're local (ish) to you mate.

I'm just down the road from you in Abingdon, any probs

or questions, drop me a email.
