Tomtom is outstanding, I havent used any other software but even my mother can work out how to use it and she can't use the damn phone I run it through to make a call

Whatever software you go with look for a reciever with the SiRF Star III Chipset. I have version two and it's fine by me but all the reviews I have seen say the third version is a real step up.

The system I use cost about £170inc and it can run through either a windows smartphone or a phone running Symbian s60, the only extra to take out of the car is a reciever which is about the size of a box of swan vestas :D

AA 2005 road atlas, £6.99

Glad to be helpful Dave :mac1: :x:

I've just paid £1.99 for this at a Shell garage, you have to spend some money on petrol but I don't know how much. Only something like £5 though.

I have Tomtom Go 300 and its an amazing piece of kit! It is all controlled by touch screen and is extremly user friendly. Its got me to all my destinations, in fact when I took a wrong turn once deliberatly it recalculated the route and got me on track again. It's a bit pricey though, current price is £369.99

I cant comment on the other sat nav systems though.

I bought 8 Medion basic jobbies (£279 from Halfords) for the service engineers at work and they seem happy with them. No more struggling to read maps or getting lost (and no more excuses for them being late to customers!!)

The Medions may not be as trick as the TomTom or Garmin etc but they do a good job and you can't complain at the price. I may actually get myself one, it might stop map-reading related arguements between Julia & I.... ;)

Alternatively, if you have a PDA phone go to http://www.totalpda.com and buy a TomTom chip for it. They are around £150 IIRC. I've just bought one for our installations manager - only arrived Friday so nothing to report yet.

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

this one has had good reviews, goes from 2d to 3d views, can be a bit quiet but you can plug it into the ice if it has a 3.5mm input or buy a cheap ass hands free amp and plug into that.
