Its can be quite difficult with 2nd hand turbos, i would ask who did the upgrade & how much it cost, & does he have the reciepts etc, is there any guarantee left ?? he states there only 3k since the re-build so he should have details. The quality of the upgrade/workmanship is paramount, also states theirs no play in the shaft whicn is about the only test you can do, as is.

Good luck Martin

Seems a bit odd to me. If they are only stock turbos with uprated internals (presumably 360 thrust bearings) it doesnt really affect the power as the turbine and compressor are still the same size. It just affects the response ie as he says spools up quicker. I cant see the point in taking them off and BUYING ANOTHER set of turbos just to sell the car. It wouldnt be necessary to take them off to run the engine in or even to sell for that matter as it doesnt affect power (and therefore insurance). Poor advice or something dodgey if you ask me, maybe theres something I'm missing.

Dave

edit: he says hybrid which generally means diferent sizes, then in the questions he says stock with uprated internals? Worth checking the numbers on stock ones maybe?

wouldnt chance it mate !! the cost of removing the engine ect and putting it back and then u could find out they are no good !! big risk bud

A hybbid turbo is for eg, a T25 Turbo bored out to maybe internal the same as T28, a modded turbo if you like, or maybe a different size wastegate etc

Cheers Martin

ish!

a hybrid (as its name suggests!) is a hybrid of 2 turbo's, usually a the compressor from a larger turbo mated to the turbine side of a smaller one.

this gives quicker spool up times due to the smaller turbine, & higher air flow due to the larger compressor.
