Nissan Skyline GTR r33 vs 300zx Twin Tub

Folks, who has driven a Skyline GTR33 Vspec and compared it to their Zed??

I would be most interested in opinions on this... I've been lurking over at gtr.co.uk and frankly cant make head nor tail of any of it LOL... Seems a common complaint on the GTR is tram-lining and insurance!! wink.gif

ive been quoted £1500 to insure a GTR R33 fully-comp with zero NCD, same as the Zed and am trying to talk meself out of buying one!

Anyways .. keep it sideways..

well idrove an r33 right before i drove my zed, and the rest is history in my opinion.

I really really did not like it, but then again personal taste i guess. and theres no way in hell it was anythign like as fast as my beloved money eating zed.

Ahhh Dont do it....unless you're keeping the Z, and gonna have the R33 as a shopping car. smile.gif

Regards

I used to own an r32 then followed it with an r33 both gtr-r models.

I then bought a zed, sold it, bought a better one, then bought one for the wife!!!

Answer ur question?????

Its all personnal preference mate!!!

Personnally i prefer the zed but thats just me!!! I like the real sports car feel of it- the skyline is a saloon really and although it is fast and handles very well i wouldnt have another one! smile.gif

Nothing you can say, im totally addicted to ZED!!!!!

WOH WAH OH!!!!

I sortta meant stock R33 and stock Z32 really, I dunno waz, just need talking out of buying one LOL...

Senna r u talking to me or willyed?

If its me ur asking i cant go cos im working!!!

I have been disgussing plans to all meet up at a cruise and be the best crowd there in zed stylee and put all the nova boys to shame!!!

Also be a good opportunity to meet up with everyone!!!

Hehe excellent!!

The lovely Mrs Senna has said she will leave me if I let the Batmobile go, so if it goes it goes to her LMAO!

I was parked at a leisure center next to a purple GTR 33 and I took a pic..must say the Batmobile looked sooooo much nicer than the GTR, but as we know the Skyline aint about looks..

Glen dont sell ur car mate!!!

I think its fappin gorgeous!!!!

Skylines are for bodybuilders and pimps!!!

Hey have u seen mine????

Quite a rare one me thinks!!

Not sure where mate!!! u live on the isle of thingy!!! oh poo!!!! Hey u know if its gonna be a long way for u you are welcome to stay at mine!

I drove a GTR33 and 34, and have to say I was very impressed. The owner of the 33 had a Z before it, and rated the skyline far higher in reliability stakes.

Straight line performance, there is very little between it and the Z, but once you reach the twisty stuff it's bye bye Z.

The roadholding abilities were beyond belief.

Managed to hitch a ride in a 660bhp r32 once, and I honestly think the space shuttle would have trouble keeping up wink.gif .The owner of that car said that he had no reliability problems with it either his only complaint being that it did 8mpg on a good day!.

That said, it does look like a dogs dinner.

i wont be able to get there as my clucth let me down on wednesday morning, i am still waiting my delivery of my new clutch as i as let down again bigtime when trying to get hold of one.

I think I would definately have one, after owning a Z and all the problems they have!!!

Already contemplating my next car, once the Z is maxed it's gonna be bye bye I reckon!

Drove both, loved both, misus hated R33, and I couldnt really afford it. For alot less money got similar performance, and the HICAS, just not 4WD.

The rest is history.

GuyZ. Dont be fooled.... the skyline r33 is a monster of a car, rated the world over by all mags/ respected jouranlists. Dont get me wrong, the zx is a bad ass motor, however the skyline a pure racer/ cult car in a class of its own with technology that other car manufacturers can only dream about....

cheerz

Skylines (r33/34) are badass no question - but not everyone's cup of tea - Their stylin and handling are very unique. They are not true 4wd either - They use a computer controlled system of shifting power to the front when the rear wheels loose traction - kinda like the Diablo VT which does it thru the Use of a Viscous Coupling ( kinda like out Rear Diff) im not sure of the specifics of the Skyline system - but it makes life fun and gives you a lot of confidence. Power if awesome - but if you want high BHP the Crank becomes a obstical at a lot lower BHP that that on the VG30DETT + You dont wanna know about insurance on the Import R34 - you think we get screwed - then you have to hope it wasn't stolen in Japan - UK spec ones are still very pricey.

I love the Car and would have one tommorow if i had the money lieing arond - but not as a replacement for my Z - it just isn't the same experience.

Zedster,

Im a Body Builder (Shame I know, but at least Ill stand up and admit it), anyway drove a GTR but bought a Zed. Purely on looks though!

biggrin.gif Makes me laugh this, how can you honestly compare a Z with a Skylark? biggrin.gif

Skylark was born from a Non-Nelson manufacturer which was Prince in Jap Land. Even today, the Skylark division, although Nelson/Renault owned, still has its own development and production team etc.

You can rave all you like about the Z against the Skyline, but at the end of the day it is a world beating machine(Skylark)!

AWESOME to be honest which is not a word I would use for the Z's!

You cannot beat the thing, straight line it would cain a Z and get it on a track or twisties and it's GAME OVER!

Trust me, when I say, if I could afford a GT-R I would have one tomorrow like Nick said! wink.gif

When I was at Middlehurst to pick my car up(moons ago) they had the most nicest, most bollox(ish) Skylark in there...GTR-V Spec with all the UK spec. How much? Oh lots, about 30K I think and that was 2nd hander...I rest my case!

Like when we all get sad enough to try and compare the 300 with an NSX? How the fuck can you honestly compare the two? Sometimes I really wonder! wink.gif

you said it matey the nsx and the r34 knock spots off a z but you cant put a good ice install in an nsx and have you ever tried to doughnut an r34 both of these small points are prerequisites for me so gimme the good old z

Theres a lot of myth about the skyline mainly created by crappy mags like auto express. Many people think you just need to turn a screw under the bonnet and you have 600hp, This is not the case. I saw sunny gtir's gettin better 0-60s than skylines at trax. Dont get me wrong I would love a skyline they are much more advanced than the Z but dont believe everything you read in the papers.

Paul

Toolmeister Z monster ICE owner

I agree with your points mate, but the Skylark is a work of art! wink.gif

On the NSX front...how much is a 92 Z selling for? Oh about 3-5K

How much for a 92 NSX...more like 10-15K

I rest my case! biggrin.gif

i would like an nsx but as im still about 20 yrs too young in the head then the z still has the force with it and i will not be tempted by the dark side

Where are you mate? MSN? You are so elusive it's untrue! biggrin.gif

yep on msn with paulg but about to go into df2 as i need to polish up my knife skills for wazza

What's yer address mate, I don't have it!

jesus timmy just cos u got a duff 300zx doesnt mean they are all crap, unreliable and slow. A skyline wouldnt cain a Zed on a straight line it might be that tiny bit in front. And the skyline is a f*cking family car the R34 looks ugly as shite and the R35 just looks totally shite even more so than the 350Z. I used to be a huge fan of skylines, but im converted now. The low lying curves of the Zed are just too much to resist and it really does live up to the max power statement 'it has more grunt than a pigfarm'. Just coming down the road i think we won a race againt light biggrin.gif

So 300ZX all the way for me. Allthough if the Zed aint up to the roads where u live then an R33 would prolly be better being based on a shopping car.
