Hi guys!!

Been doin some research on these fans and from the search above and from what ive learnt, you shouldnt be able to hear the fan spin when drivin the only time you seem to be able to hear it is from starting from her from cold you will hear it whirr for about 10 seconds then the fan will go silent again.

This happins on my Zed but when she gets warm you can start to hear the vicous fan revving with the engine in a whirring noise, sounds a bit lke a huge hair dryer or a landrover!! And from what ive been told you should never to be able to hear the fan spinnin!

Anyway is this a coupling prob or is it the fans clutch? Or are these the same thing? If so any ideas on fittin and price!!

Any views and i would be very grateful!!

Thats it doing its job. When the weather is hot it needs to shift more air and the bi metal spring clutch bites due to temp.

iv noticed mine is louder than i remember in my old zed, i think, but it dsn't make a 'mechanical' noise like whirring, it just kind of roars

But it starts to roar only about 5 mins from cold! and its quite loud!

I had the exact same noise as you describe A-COOP and my coupling needed replacing.

james, how do you check to see if it needs replacing or not?

any of you guys know where to get a new one... mine has more cracks in it than a dryed out elephant....

its gonna fall apart soon.

ps if i am buying a new one... or used.. are there upgrades???

Sounds like you should switch off the engine at that point and have a feel for how it is rotating - whether smoothly free wheeling or - whether the clutch has locked up prematurely indicating somthing amiss.

mine use to whine like fook you could turn it very easy when cold so replaced now all is fine,

so how do you check if it's knackered or not?
