Noticed last night that my fuel gauge has stopped moving (its stuck just below 1/2 full). Anyone has this problem before and what was the solution?

Cheers,

Happened on my last Zed, never went above 3/4. I didn't fix it but heard it might be the sender unit in the fuel tank sticking. Maybe a bit of a buggar to get to?

fill the tank to absolutely full . take apart dash , remove dials , and cover plate , with ignition on but car not started , look at fuel gauge ,on the fuel gauge there is a small potentiometer , adjust so the dial reads full or better still 99% .....turn the ignition off and gauge should settle at zero , watch the movement of the pointer as it should be smooth , if it sticks anywhere it could be that the gauge face has warped slightly and that may be the problem , put it back together and good luck

Mine stays at the level of fuel in the tank with ignition on of off

SO does mine...I thought it was meant to do that

mine must be the odd one out then ?? mine is a Jap import .....are they hooked up slightly differently ??

mines a jap import aswell...1990.

This is what i have noticed so far from personal experience between Zeds :-

ECU wires different colours/locations

Rear HICAS rack

HICAS junction box on rear

There are other well known differences on a thread on here somewhere??...cant find it :smash:

I am pretty sure that the gauge itself isn't stuck, I think its either something to do with the float in the tank or the electrical connection.

Another effin job for the weekend then!

Thanks for the assistance guys...

do you have any aftermarket dials at all? if so, are they stuck down correctly.

I thought I would resurrect this thread as my head is getting fried with a similar problem.

My fuel gauge still doesnt work and is allways reading full. Heres the story. all working fine when I removed to fit the indiglos. Fit the indiglos and put it back together and goes straight to full. Take the clocks out and check all connectors etc all good, remove the fuel gauge and reflow solder and check resistance all ok. Put the clocks back in, still reading full. My head is getting fried with it. Dont know what else to do and cant afford new clocks. Does anyone have any suggestions (sensible ones i dont need winding up anymore)? Is there an easy way to test the sender as the only thing i can think is it may be purely coincidence that the sender has given up and the same time as I changed the clock? Or is there a fuse for the fuel gauge that might have gone that will cause the problem? Or finally does someone have a set of clocks i could borrow to plug in and try?

Lastly if you look at the pic of the back of my clocks you will see a burnt out wire, thats always been there but could it be causing the problem?

I think I have problem with mine.

It never goes much above zero and i can't remember ever seeing it show full.

Could it be something to do with my empty wallet?
