Well, I know the threads pop up as a result of things going wrong, let's face it, no one's going to start loads of threads saying how reliable and problem free their TT is.

I'm hunting for one at the moment. Infact Jeff and Zedworld is on the case for me. He seems to have a good reputation on here, so quite confident he'll be able to get me a good one.

Now, just getting cold feet looking at the money that people are spending on their cars. I cannot afford to have a car that is going to sap as much money as people are spending on repairs. I know this is a huge consideration that I've got to take. These cars are pricey to fix and one has to know this before purchasing a Zed. But by and large, are they reliable?

I am not one to modify really. Although my current car is modified, it's the only car I've ever modified.

Engine wise, it'll be almost standard. Just a nice set of dished split rim alloys and some upgraded suspension componentry....something like this beauty...

had my TT FOR 18MONTHS not a single problem only a starter motor and the usual things you need like tyres brakes etc,not bad for a 15yr old car

Nice news there Greg.... saw it the other day too...looking mighty fine.

Ok, next story of praise.. :)

I see Jeff is looking at the thread. :)

Ive owned that beauty for 4 years now... she came with those wheels which did sell her to me :D

The wheel are Work Equip 18" split rims. only available in Japan I believe but you never know. They do them in chrome now too ;)

http://www.work-wheels.co.jp

Reliablilty wise, no problems at all. Ive done a mixture of running everyday to only when the suns out. Although I have increased the boost now (Profec B Spec II) and the clutch is starting to feel the strain. :smash:

Pete

I've had mine twelve months now and the only expense I've had was tyres and a service although I did replace the Hicas arms. Other than she's been fine.

They are very reliable , considering, but there a performance supercar, for very little money.

Keep £500 spare, or credit on a card, you should be OK, if your source one that hasnt been abused

Cheers Martin

PS Most problems happen when people mod them, without sorting out the basics

To enjoy life to the full you must take risks !!

Thanks guys.

Yeah Pete, your red zed looks perfect. Just the kind of look I'm after really. Dribbled at it last week when I saw it. Would like some more photos of it if you have any.

as martin said 15year old car expect problems if you buy one that has had a hard life, most of them have then there will be problems, you should keep some money aside 15year old turbos can fail at any time as with other common components, but buy a good one that has been looked after well preferably forum member ie jeff etc then you should get a good one, tread carefully,

make sure you know what your looking at,take a knowledgable z owner with you who have some experiance, its a buyers market they can be had for cheap money, just be careful.

Thanks guys.

Thanks Pete, much appreciated.

Greg, yeah, gotta find a current Z owner to have a look with me. Although Jeff knows his stuff. Very confident in dealing with him.

...deffo just want a low milage import. Engine wise, I want it as standard as I can possibly get it.

mate this isnt aimed personally at you but I cant stand people worrying all the time...

my next door neighbour has a nice rover and he wont come to any car shows because hes worried that his kids might not enjoy themselfeves FFS!

he also used to ask me who new quite alot about the rover turbo engine certain questions which I confidentally new the answer but then hed go and ask a load of other people aswell who have never owned a turbo car in there life if they would do it and of course there answer was

" oh I wouldnt turn the boost up itll blow the engine so then hed come back to me and say dont think Im gonna do this boost thing bit worried so Id say you ask ten different people get ten different answers!!

Remember people Only Post the bad things

They dont come on and put a thread saying my car went on a 200 mile trip today without missing a beat because they dont think about, but a soon as theres a prob they Post naturally..

make sure it runs nice hand over the cash and enjoy life,,

your a long time dead! :smash:

Rover Turbos munch head gaskets for a past time...

Maybe we should have a "Where have you been?" section where people post successful trips :D

FunkySi: rides updated with lastest pics... done more stuff but no pics yet

thats just it youve heard they do because you know off perhaps 1 person.. and hes heard of others but the actual truth is they LEAK not go!

and it doesnt affect driving or anything oil doesnt really lower much aswell?

its a rumour mate

but for that I could tell you ten that havent. Mine never did and the other chaps hasnt they were pushing 250bhp

its all down to SERVICING!

chris

same as any car

and the people that have them probably thrash the living daylights out of them dont care for them then they say gaskets gone..

That's come out well. What's the grey on them before then? Is it an anthracite type paint or just bare plastic?

Just bare plastic!

Hmmmm interesting. Wouldn't mind trying it with an anthracite paint...always things to try, gotta get the bloody thing first.

Quite handy with a spray can. Reconditioned a set of wheels recently, and they have come out like new. Supprised myself.

once Did 2300 km in two days the only thing that got bust was my back

When I bought mine, I replaced the PTU as it went bad (like they all do) and the water pump went because I didn't replace it with the 60k service (we all learn by our mistakes).

However in the last 2 years nothing has gone wrong with the car. I was driving 250 miles p/w to and from work - pretty hard sometimes - and it was sound. Fast, comfortable and reliable

I haven't used it everyday since November (maybe 2-3 times a week) as I have another car too, but now summer is here I've just started again, leaving the Rav at home. I mean, what would you rather drive??

I use the ZX for all holidays too, sometimes covering 1500 miles in a week and still it is fine.

I have had a couple if issues with safety boost in the hot weather after a couple of hours driving but Optimax has solved that one too.

Mine's a UK spec auto, just coveren 81k miles now. (62k when I bought it)

The only expense has been fuel and rear tyres.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Ive quite surprised myself with what can be done with a spray can.. Even to the point i would consider buying a small compressor and paint kit.. well maybe not :D :smash: :smash:

Thanks Richard. How much are PTUs then? A used figure will do.

Yeah Pete, I turned these.....(yeah, 5hitty Cavalier wheels, but used it as something to practice on.) This is my daily-driver-mobile, so no laughing.
