1 of my import zeds is causing me some major headaches recently. no matter what i do she ends up spewing all the water out of the overflow. already replaced rad cap(genuine nissan) tried new thermostat and water pump. still no change... :headvswal ... i currrentley have the thermostat removed n it still doing it... any suggestions would be welcomed as i'm just about at the end of my tether with it now. ...

Seems like you have covered most things, all I can think of is air in the system or sometimes the neck on the rad is worn and the cap doesnt seal proplerly.

poss its an airlock at the matrix end of the system which keeps expanding when hot so forcing out via the expansion bottle...try refilling very slowly whilst parked facing up a steep slope...should get all the bubbles to the head of the rad...need to keep running the engine whilst doing this...its 10litres the cooling system so make sure you got plenty of water n coolant...worked for me..:D

Possible headgasget ?? ( hope not mate ) have you checked the colour of your oil ?

Is there any water in there turning it brown ?

Cheers Martin

And keep the heater on while doing this ;)

Can the water in the cooling system not be tested for carbon aka compression gas content....my mate had a similar problem with his Scooby, he took it to a local garage who did some sort of test to the cooling system...head gasket was cream crackered when they stripped it....i am not sure of the exact nature of the tester though...anyone expand on this??

start with trying a new OEM rad cap, over the years the seal often wears and causes radiator problems

yes basically you get the cylinder leakage kit which you fill with blue dye or similar place over the filler neck of the rad start car and pump if the fluid turns green after a while, then it generaly means theres combustion gases in the cooling systym which indicates HGas said already could well be a big airlock, but id try the above test first, cost approx £40-50 for the kit

if you got a water leak its normally heater matrix, check for damp in passnger and driver floor wells under carpet. common on imports as japs dont like using anti freeze and it corrodes, also check the pipes to the matrix (right at back of engine!)

matrix is £149+vat but need to remove half the dash and clutch pedal!! zedworld do a set fee matrix replacement

dont know if its significant, but i used to top up the rad, then after a bit of a thrash, it would drop some water from the overflow, couldnt find a prob, so i left the coolant level low, still could be seen at the top of the rad, just not up to the brim, like i had previously filled it, since that its never played up again, the level is still as i left it, i pressumed it needed this bit of room for expansion reasons.

I have the same problem and i took it to a number of garages. They all told me it is the head gasket and that the job is too big for them to do. Is it possible to do the head gasket myself? and how hard would it be? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Most garages have a "sniffer" that will smell the water to tell if the head gaskets leaking. Also some plumbers use one. Actually Gas Engineers. Try your local British Gas man and offer him a fiver?

i had similar problem , ended up bein a pin prick of a hole in one of the heater matrix hoses !! which was causing air to enter the system. changed the 2 hoses and fine now.

I also had this two weeks ago turned out i had a tiny split in the hose that goes to the bottom of the radiator,i was also getting what looked like foam when i undid the rad cap all fine now.
