Got the car running yesterday, but could not get it to idle at all it would bounce from 500rpm to 800-100rpm then cut out

when first sarting it I guess there is some sort of inrichment device as it runs fine then 10seconds later it will start hunting.

Its had a new harness fitted all the contacts are clean, had played with the tps no help, my only doubt is the MAF as the new air filters sit near the vent betweet the head lights and could have got wet, if the maf was fook or faulty would this give these symtoms? either that or it could be thew idle control valve?

had a car yesterday with faulty MAF and went with a hunting idle, swapped MAF and all ok again

checked all vac lines for any leaks?

Iam down in Southend on Saturday, if you want I could bring the Conzult and our leak tester along with us. As I dont know the area too well, it would be best if you could meet up with us.

Let me know as were in for a busy day as it is.

Cheers

Did you have anything special done to the engine?

Any mods?

Cant really hear fook all because of the exhausts But I have double checked everything all seems ok, im taking it to Redline imports tomorrow for a conzult check and a MAF swap and see if scott can come up with anything, If no luck then i'll give you a shout (dave C)

The engine has Jwt 530sport tubs, 555's, FMIC, John d chip and few other bits.

Ditched the carbon canister, aircon, hicas,

how old is the petrol? it goes off....

That was fresh in yesterday, flushed the tank when I took it out to do the subframe

you checked your ecu connection, too tight or too loose can cause it to idle rough, take it out and redo it, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Took the car for a conzult check today and had it pressure tested, couple of small leaks but nothing serious , the O2 sensors (they are brand new) said the car was running lean but Scott said it smelt very rich! he said the Maf is showing that its working from the conzult, had the tps setup, still no joy.

Tried unplugging and replugging the Ecu, no change.

I have a dual intake fitted simular design to the ones smithy sells

any ideas???????? :headvswal :headvswal

you did get the chip mapped for a dual intake? right?

yer should be

How does the car behave at higher revs ?

Is it a completely seperated dual intake ? or a "W" design ? (where both intakes come together into 1 MAF)

You can hold the throttle at 1000rpm and its 90% right slight murrmering, it revs up clean and seems ok above 1000rpm.

Its a "w" design intake with a single maf

>> Its a "w" design intake with a single maf

Ok, then I think that's your problem....the W-design is not a genuine dual intake.

See if things improve if you get a chip for a single maf/intake

thanks i'll give it a go, do you think this will be affecting the O2 sensors? cant work out why the conzult is showing that the O2's are running lean yet the car is smelling rich

also the car runs fine when first started for ten seconds or so, does it have some sort of fuel enrichment device? after this cuts out it runs crap

what were the o2 sensors doing? if they are dead and the voltage is not moving this will cause the car to run rich under 3000RPM's

we can swap my MAF onto your car if you want

That wont do anything.

Chips for dual POP litterally double the amount of air the MAS is reading as a true dual pop has 1 filter just for each side of the engine, so a single MAS can only read the air going into one side of engine, so it doubles it.

What he has got is a single intake but with 2 filters, all the air is going past the MAS so there is no need for the chip to double the air reading

That wont do anything.

Looks like im going to have to try another chip to eliminate this.

Thanks for all your help guys, this is where you get your moneys worth paying for subscription

yes srrae i know..... I am offering it in case he has any other problems

took the air filters off today tried running it like that still the same the chip has been set up for a single Maf, tried blocking off the dump valves still the same I then partially blocked the MAF with my fingers and managed to get it to Idle

just wondering if the maf was nackered even though it has shown up on the conzult as working?

seems as if the car is drawing to much air, the ecu is detecting its running lean from the O2 sensors so its pumping more fuel in therefore smelling rich from outside  :headvswal :headvswal
