My zed has a bad vibration from the front at around 75mph. Its perfectly smooth up to 70 and fine and dandy after 80. When i brake at around 75 the vibration is terrible. I thought it might have been warped discs but if i slam on the anchors at any speed above/below that, its as smooth as you like.

 

Any ideas whats causing it?

 

My wheels have just been balanced. The guy at my mates work said he couldnt do the 4 wheel lase allignment because my bumper was too low. :confused:

 

Could dodgy front tyres cause this? I just have a temporary set on just now which were lying around my mates gatrage.

Cheap tyres can cause gremlins - I bought a nearly new Cavalier CDi back in 1990 and at 80mph I got serious wheel vibes. I tried the balance/tracking route and all was fine.

 

One garage suggested CV joints but on a 5 month old 10K mile car I don't think so. It did however have some dodgy brand of tyres, after replacing with a premium make the problem mysteriously vanished..........

 

I did suffer from this in the ZX last month but it turned out one of the stick-on weights came off a wheel in the wet weather so after a re-balance the problem went too....

Take your pick. Its most probably the torsion bushes. Do you ahve polly ones or are they still standard?

Cheers for that Richard. They aint cheap tyres, they're michelin sports. BUT, they are used tyres. They were lying around my mates garage after being removed from some other car, so i thought id use them for the time being. I really hope thats whats causing the trouble!

I'm pretty sure it has poly bushes. They guy before me had them done. I've got all the receipts lying around so ill have a look see.

Just because tyres are not cheap doesnt meant they cant be bad. Look at F1 for instance ;) Hehehehe

 

It could be the wheels buckled.

For about a year my daily driver vibrated badly when reaching 70mph. I asked a tyre shop if it was my wheels they tested it and they said no, it could be the tyres. I changed the tyres when they needed, and still virbation, and I asked them to check the wheels again. Again, no they are not buckled.

 

Some one gave me some old alloys which I put on my car, and guess what. Vibration went.!

hmmmm. I bloody hope its not the wheels. :(

Nope unfortunately. i'll have to come up with something though.

...put the back ones on the front and vice-versa... and test.

mine does this. its the rear hicas rack inner ball joints. i dont know if the fluid pulses in the rack and makes the front rack wobble too.?

I had a very similar vibration at those speeds. Got wheels balanced, and they told me that alloy was buckled, but they balanced them the best they could. Drove it like that for a month, and was getting really hacked off with it.

 

Took it to another Tyre place, who said the last place badly balanced them, he redid them, now its perfect !
