Is it 'essential' or just 'recommended' to replaced all the other parts (i.e. water pump, seals, belts, etc. etc.) rather than just the cam belt ?

Comments please

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul,

Not too sure on the answer but you've got to remember you're removing them all to get to the cam belt anyway and you'd be silly not to change them then :)

Vijay

its not a Nissan service requirement, it is strongly recommended however!

It's just a question of cash flow at the moment, how much does it cost just to buy the cam belt, any idea ?

and do you have to take the water pump off to just change the cam belt ?

cheers

paul.

All those parts often fail at around the same mileage as the cambelt it due replacement. If you dont change them now, you will have to do it all over again.

All the time spent in getting to the point where you can remove the cambelt, is the same for all the other parts. It would be silly not to change them at the same time.

and you don't really want to risk your water pump failing. Trust me, you don't get any warning!!!

Vijay

I changed the cam belt on my NA about 4 years ago - it cost about £54 from Nissan - and it took me 2 full days - first time I'd done anything so big on a car. And, the water pump failed about 2 months later (another £50+) - so in effect you do it all again. This time, less than a day.

Just bought a full 60k kit from Mike at MJP for £250 - and it includes the water pump and all the belts (4) and pipes (2) and seals (lots) and 3 bearings.

Moral is, you might as well spend the money as it's false economy not to - unless you like spending all your time with your head under the bonett...

Good luck

Jack

I agree! I know most people have to watch there pennies but if you do have a failure of one of the mentioned items it will cost you! Unless you just get the dreaded leak from the water pipes and thats just a pain in the arse FFS

Exactly! This happened to me :o

I had the belts changed at 63K then 3 months later the water pump went - luckily my warranty paid for the waterpump and the labour to remove all the stuff at the front of the engine for a 2nd time ;)

Get your car booked in with Ryan at Z-tech, I reckon his price for the full works is about as low as you'll get and he'll do a damn good job too, by all accounts.

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Yeh wouldnt make sense not to change at least cambelt tensioner and w pump in one hit
