OH MY GOD CHECK THESE HARDPIPES OUT

: These are mandrel bent aluminized steel tube that I have polished out. They cost me $16 each. The hose clamps are $3 each, and are hella nice. The 2"->2.5" adapters were $7 at Napa and the 2.5" straight rubber couplings were $1.50 each.

: I'm still waiting on the 2" pipes to arrive, however, I already have the hose clamps and couplings waiting for them once they get here. Enjoy!

Hi Girls,

Just read this thread a bit late I guess, but been away.

Anyhow, a few points to clear up:-

1 The purpose for using metal as oppose to rubber, is that the pipes wont loose pressure by ballooning up,as rubber ones do.

2 The type of metal used is down to preferential choice, does look matter, and life expectancy etc

3 Good point about heat transfer, but heat soak will happen wether its rubber or metal. Also black attract heat more than any other colour, so by rights the rubber should be worse than the metal ones.

Judging by Jeffs post he aint exactly making a mint on these, and when I have some money will be in touch for these and the headlight jobbie.

Thanks,

Leigh

A comment on heat soak.

Black both absorbs and radiates heat more efficently than say silver, however there will be a difference between the charateristics of metal and rubber pipes.

If you were serious about this I'd guess that you'd go for metal pipes finished in black as that will transfer the heat more efficiently than either black rubber or silver metal and if you were really serious then metal pipes with heat sinks on the outside (now that's called an intercooler!)

But there again, where is the most heat, in the air going through the pipe, or in the air in the engine compartment ? It could work against you !

And whilst I'm on a ramble, why are intercoolers always finished in shiny aluminium and not say matt black paint or at least black annodised ? Surely that would be more effective ....
