A mate of mine has just replaced both tubs on his zed and is getting white smoke from exhaust. We have compare his car agains mine to make sure all the pipes are on correctly and no problem there. I have done a ECU check and code 55 so no problem there.

When car is started there is no smoke, when I checked his exhaust there seems to be a lot more pressure coming from the driver side than the passenger, the passenger side is slightly smoking. When car heats up white smoke starts too poor out of passenger side, and when reved from both sides, it totally swamps the street.

We are really at a loss as to what's causing this and any help would be appreciated.

sorry to say this mate , i had a similar problem and it was a pistons nakered . Do a compression test mate and post the results.

had the same prob mate on another Z then it blew up due to a fooked piston

BTW,why were tubs changed?-if they were knackered and passing oil, this could still be in the exhaust and burning off?

He changed the tubs because the car failed MOT as oil was getting into tubs and causing smoke. Now though the tubs have been changed and the smoke is 100 times worse. The engine ticks over ok when cold but is a little erratic when hot, it does not sound like its missing as its very smooth when idleing. It has just been de-cated when tubs replaced (tubs had uprated staggered gap). There is no sludge in water.

The next things we were going to check is to get it on datascan but waiting for cable to arrive, and also as sugested compression test. Engine seemed fine before tubs replaced! :headvswal

What was strange is there is a lot more pressure coming from driver side exhaust than passenger, it is almost as if somthing is blocking the passenger exhaust.

Would strongly recommend the compression test. I reconditioned my turbos thinking they were the problem. Had the same signs as you. Then bought a compression tester and realised it was pistons. Turned out two of them were trashed.

Ok compression test is next on the list, can you tell me what the normal reading are on the test.

Thanks.

Guys where can you get this compression test done, i am in exactly the same situation!

Dan.

Any garage should be able to do this for you.

get a tester and do your self mate , not that hard , just involved removing spark plugs.

Compression testers are about £60. Expensive bit of kit but worth having if you are working on the car yourself. Especially for people like me who try replacing turbos before doing it and then realise its a fooked engine!! Hopefully the garage will tell you. I con't remember what the actually compression should be but basically you are looking for one or more cylinders with a significantly lower (maybe 20%?) compression than the others. This would be a knackered piston or rings.
