Has anyone used a solution for a laptop? Ideally i'd like to have a bluetooth gps unit in my car and decent software on my laptop,

Yep, I use a Garmin GPS with Garmin Mapsource s/w. I do have a bluetooth GPS as well, but I never managed to get the psuedo-serial connection to work right, except on my PDA.

i just bought a navman gps, was sick and tired of getting lost going to the pod etc lol

i use my very old PDA (HP Jornada 525) wich are cheep on ebay, with some tomtom software, cost me £45 for the GPS reciever from ebay, works very well

I use the PDA version of Destinator that has been intalled into software called MapMonkey, allowing it to work on PC.

well i dont know what you guys think about autoroute but it does have gps capabilities i brought a reciever off of ebay for £25 and use that on my laptop works a treat now i need to save for the tft screens lol

does any old GPS receiver work? or are some better than others, only criteria is that it be bluetooth

any supported NMEA GPS Receiver should be fine. Plenty on Ebay.
