Ok here we go then. there are a few threads asking this and that about BHP. I'm in learning mode now BTW....

why or How come there is so much difference between the Jap and UK spec TT? what did Nissan do to the UK to make it less powerful. AND! can it be reversed?

Mines Jap so I dont need it done I was just curious?

I thought that UK and Jap were both 280bhp  The US model was supposed to be 300bhp IIRC

Yep. Although personally I'd love to actually see Rolling road tests of Jap and UK TT when new.

are there any other differences between the two or is it just the mysterious power difference?

Lots of other "minor" differences, and loads of threads about it.

Jap has 225 rear tyres, Uk has 245

Jap has electric folding mirrors

UK auto has oil cooler, Jap auto does'nt

ECU's are mapped for different octane ratings

UK has rear fogs, but no front fogs

Jap has front fogs, but no rear fogs

a little info here also : http://www.300zx.org.uk/mod_comp_1.htm

i think this is one of life's mysteries. no-one knows which were 280 and which were 300

I reckon it's all myth. They were all made the same up to more recent models which were toned down due to emissions

UK spec car weigh slightly more due to addition kit, this would not show up on a rolling road but sholud in the real world......having said that would you actually perceive the small diffence?

Jeff TT

hmm if jap spec would have more bhp than uk, then why does uk have the wider rear tyre, surley the uk has a little more power due to the very stringent emmisions in jap land!!, thats my 2pence worth anyway LOL!!

UK emissions are stricter which is part of the reason the Zed was dropped from the Uk in 1994, but continued till 2000 in Japan.

If there is a difference(which I dont believe there is) then Japs would have more power becuase of the Higher octane fuel that the ECU's are mapped to.

They only have 225 wide rear tyres for legal reasons in japan (I dont know exact details), think its to do with tyre profile heights.

additional kit ? Auto oil cooler...and ?

i will race any jap zed and win so there lol

Never in my town buddy we be crazy tractor drivers round yer !!!! :D :D

Ok mines a late 1991 Spec UKTT Manual and has both an Oil Cooler and Dif Cooler and headlight washers poking out from the front bumper.. Also it has the HI Speed HICAS suspension version with adjustable damping which is controlled from the hand brake.. Some import modles had a switch for this.. There is no difference in power between a standard UK and JAP TT... Just a few more bit's on a UK Car for realibilty etc... This myth of 300BHP Is Bull for US models too... Actuall figures from Nissan range from 282 to 284 Bhp... Sod all!!!

Oh, bigger width tyers and profiles circumferance etc will give different rolling road readings so cause standardard jappy ones are smaller at the rear the profile will also be different... Stick 13inch wheel on yer Z then go on a rolling road and watch yer BHP grow by about 100BHP!!!! Stick 30" ers on and you have a Z with the same power as one of Funky Si's farts after a good sesh on the beans!!! :)

UK targa blinds are bigger and UK also have headlight washers.

Jap seat belts are on the doors for some mad reason!

Rear bumpers are different for the number plate

ah yes i remember now its all coming back to me

uk were the fastest ones expecially the red ones they went faster for some reason

Yes UK are faster especially black ones. Makes sense really as Jap's are limited to 280bhp.

Legrath.

Larger engine oil cooler

Power steering cooler

Diff oil cooler bracket and pipe work

Diff oil pump assembly , bracket and pipe work

Manual gearbox cooler bracket and pipe work

Manual gearbox oil pump assembly , bracket and pipe work

Rubber air deflectors on tension rod arms

Headlight wash, pump and associated pipe work

Front number plate mounting plate

Front cross support bar ( under air box )

Rear bumper fog lights and associated wiring

Larger rear wheels and tyres

Boot located amplifier for rear speakers

Rear inertia seat belts ( only small lap belts in Jap )

Adjustable rear shocks and associated electronics

As far as the auto box cooler, both the import and UK spec zeds use the radiator end sections as a cooling medium, both end caps on a UK car and just one on a Jap spec car, both are woefully inadequate.

Ok yes some of those parts not going be that heavy individually but a fair bit as a total I am sure.

I wasn't expecting that many replies. So I take it the general concenssus is that UK spec is superior?

Would anyone consider getting a Jap imported just because of the lower mileage?

In Japan production cars are not allowed 45 profile tyres out of the factory - hence J-spec cars run 225/50/16 all round.

The wider rear tyres and different spec HICAS in UK/EEC spec ZXs are down to the fact that over here we drive greater distances and at higher speeds than the Japanese. J-spec cars are limited to 112mph whereas UK/EEC spec cars are limited to 155mph.

Our roads are also twistier than those in Japan - again the benefit of wider rear tyres is necessary here.

HTH

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I would'nt say its superior. It has some extra stuff, and is also missing some stuff.

Mileage and condition is more important.
