Just had Ryan tell me that my big-end was blown because there was way too much oil in it. It also blew out the rear oil seal.

 

Problem is that it had only just been serviced at a main dealer!

 

It was running quite sweetly up until the service.

just proves than main dealers not only rip u off but no jack sh*t about zeds!! Ive never taken any of my cars to a main dealer and never would !! This just prvoes why. Sorry to hear it bud , but at least now ryan has it , it is in good hands with someone who knows their stuff!!

Karl not all main Dealers are shite you will find an odd one where the mechanic does know his way around a Z32 very well.

Surely you've got some comeback with the dealer?! The reason you paid Nissan's high prices was surely for some piece of mind and assurance that the work would be done well?

 

Get on to them immediately and drop words like "compensation" and "incompetence" into the letter/conversation.

Not only that, the 60K service I had didn't include water pump, hoses or other belts!

 

I'm just calming down a bit before I give them a ring. Swearing at them for 10 minutes is never a good way to start a conversation.

 

Hopefully I should have it back for the weekend - just in time for some bad weather. Woo.

the 60k service does not include the water pump & hoses, most of us just fit them as it makes sense while you are there.

 

& TBH i dont think that overfilling with oil would be the cause of big end failure, tho it could cause the seal to fail

but is it worth chancing ur car in hope u find that odd one ???? i certainly wouldnt. I took my impreza to subaru and they were useless !! i took my rx7 to mazda they were useless !! i took my laguna to renault and they were useless so no chance was i gonna chance me zed!!

PMSL Its not a case of chance,If you know of any good Nissan mechanics that have had alot of experiance on these cars then use them. I do and he was very good.

would definatly cause a seal to go in time,and the bottom line is the bearings are fecked and the crank is damaged also,so maybe not because to much oil,but could well be,and nissan wont take responsability,they will just blag it- and blame the customer :mac1:

In 6 years I have yet to leave my car to nissan for any reason. It's basically been forgotten about. On the rare occasion i would phone them to price a part (when i'm in the mood for a good chuckle!), I'm always greeted with "A what?, a nissan 300sx? , never heard of it, let me check my computer " :slap:

 

Mac 1 is right, there were a few nissan mechanics in the nineties trained to service them, but most of them i would imagine, have changed jobs and are EXTREMELY hard to find.

 

Lucky for you , you've got a number of specialists in the UK that can sort you out. I tend to rely on this website for info, (I would now be lost without) then pass it on to a mechanic who can take offence at being told by a complete machanical idiot like me, where the problem probably lies.

If there is oil dripping from the gearbox/engine union it is probably the rear crank seal.

 

If you have low oil pressure on your stock gauge it it probably the sender unit!

 

If you have a profound knocking noise from the lower half of your engine it is probably your bearings!

It must have been pretty bad - I only did 200 miles in it from having it serviced.

 

The rear oil seal was blown and the first bearing had come apart completely. Ryan was amazed it still ran.

 

I've decided to wait until I get the car back and have a word with the nice Ryan before taking it up with the dealers. My bet is that as it's been a couple of months since it blew, Nissan are going to be less than eager to try and keep me happy. It's worth a try though.

ok guys just bought a Z 1990 TT the cam followers are noisy as hell and the oil pressure gauge aint working not moving at all. I must have oil pressure as I've driven 50mile in it and no crank noise. Where should I start looking ??

Oil Pressure sender unit on these cars is a known fault, ask Mike feeney for a price and not very expensive to fit, that would be my first and cheapest port of call.
