OMG went to the petrol station last night and sitting there was a purple cerbera with 18" and slammed :shock: all polished up etc

 

anyway out comes the owner fecking hell he was no older than 19 skinny with a cap on which was to big for him etc.

 

whats going on cuz I can apprecciate you cant go by looks. but something just didnt seem right.

 

then he started it and it stalled :p

 

and Ive never heard such a rough engine it sounded like a 200,000 mile unserviced A series making all those metallic noises. there wasnt even a note coming out the exhaust.,

 

Its my favourite looking car but going on pistonheads and reading all the faults Ie expect to break down every 2 weeks etc this goes that goes.

 

How the hell did they get away with making it didnt they test them first.

 

My Z hasnt missed a beat in 4 months and Im vastly going off TVR's.

I really, really, really want a Cerbie and in a couple of years when I've solved my current mortgage problem I may have one. However, my biggest concern is the AJP motor, always sound rough (kind of like two bikes ticking over next to each other). Perhaps chucking one of the 5.0l Griff engines in there would be a good plan.

Have a look at the straight 6 version then Andy - much better sounding, pretty much as fast (some have more powerful Tuscan spec sixes) and more reliable by all accounts

If it was a Red Rose edition they do sound like a bag of bolts. But the 0-60 times will make a Z look like a robin relient.

 

Myself I love TVR´s espesh the cerbi interior.

I love the Cerbie aswell, would love one and I agree with Stu...you cannot beat the sound of a TVR running a V8 or any V8 for that matter. Even my Range Rover's used to shake and rattle windows on a regular basis. Ain't no substitute for cubes AMEN!

I had a Chimaera 4.0 V8 last year when I was 22. Was a gorgeous ride and nothing went wrong with it while I had it!! Will be on the lookout for a Cerbera next year I think!

 

Was torn between the Zed and a Cerbera, the Zed was my "Childhood Sweetheart" of a car and at the time won hands down!!

I had a Chimaera, that was about £2,200 2 yrs NCD with Tesco. Pretty expensive, but worth it in the summer!!

It's been a long time since I've posted on here, but i do check in occasionally, and after seeing this thread thought that I just had to post. Having owned a Chimaera 500 and now have a shiny Cerbera in purple, no it wasn't me at the petrol station, i look a bit older that 19!

 

The Speed 6 engine is the really fragile TVR lump, with cam follwers made out of chocolate for a start! Although any with a recent engine rebuild or cars built after 2003 seem to faring much better. The AJP V8 is a better proposition but at the end of the day it is a race derived flat plane V8 so it's a bit of a pig below 3500, but get it 'singing' and it's an absolute animal! I love it. Although the noise is not a patch on the RV8, even with decat pipes and a full sports system.

 

If you're thinking of getting a TVR - all I can say id just do it, but expct to spend some money as they won't sell without a service history, a recognised indi' will do but even they don't come cheap. They say budget £3K just to keep a Cerbera on the road per year, I remember someone saying that to me when i bought a Zed!

Still have my Zed, just can't bear to part with it and the prices are a joke, i couldn't part with it for what they're fetching at the moment.

 

Only had to sell the Chimaera as I'm now a dad and needed the extra seats. ;)

A mate of mine has a Chimera , not as pretty as a Cerbera but it has a 4.0 v8

which only knocks out about 250 horses but its the shear grunt it has , you can be pootling along in a high gear doing about 1500 revs , floor it and :shock: it would pull a fooking house down, sounds the mutts aswell :dance:

Have you heard the AJP flat plane crank V8? Sounds like a very loud four imo. Lecturer at m Uni used to have an early 4.2 - it sounded like a bag of spanners every time I heard it. Unfortunately they didn't put a rover V8 in the cerbera, but without a doubt they are very quick, just sound a bit poo!

My friends' next door neighbour has one of those things in red: it's in great nick but the engine sounds like a box full of spanners being shaken up. It's why I don't like TVRs very much: noisy, uncouth, unreliable and half the models are just butt ugly. Sorry, I know this probably means I have no soul but my perfect car would have at least 700 bhp and be completely silent (never gonna happen, but you can dream). I like easy power and stuff that just works without making a big fuss.

I have promised myself a TVR one day. A nice Griffith will give me all the Aural pleasure I desire...and then some.

They have to be the nicest sounding cars about. Why don't Jaguar and Lexus make their V8 engines sounds the way they where meant to? I had TVR rear silencers on my TR8...... got to go. Having V8 withdrawel symptons.
