Some of it is true but a lot is meant to be seen as an extended metaphore. When people get the wrong end of the stick and treat it literally you get problems. And it's been translated / interpreted many times some versions are innacurate.

Not that I'm a christan or anything, mind!

Religion is worst than football and Forums for causing rows. I have always been a Millwall fan/supported. But never a fan of any religion. Each to his own.

My personal opinion is how can you believe that a bloke comes home from work one day, and his wife says, "you'll never believe this, but an angel came down and told me im pregnant, and I got to call him ....." Now, if that happened today, what do you think the blokes immediate reaction would be??

PMSL .. The bad thing to this is that when my mum died my Dad got all religous and now is a member of the God Squad .. how ****ed up is that? Never been religious in his whole life .. now ... well ...

It's also worth remembering that the gospels of the New Testament were not only written many, many years after the "event" but each one was chosen by a central "committee". If you didn't tow the party line, you didn't get in. The ones that didn't were unearthed not so long ago in Nag Hammedi. There's a book about them which is an interesting read. Particularly as one gospel is written in such a way that the "Word" (as in, "In the Beginning there was the Word") and the "Holy Ghost" are clearly supposed to be feminine. Hmmmm...a patriarchal Judeo-Christian society expunging all mention of the power of the feminine principal in its doctrine...well that's a surprise. Not.

Sadly I know what you mean mate. I have experienced that with my own family. But as my mother said about her sister when she turned to god after my uncle died.

I personally think a few monks wrote the whole thing after a night on the communion wine...... :slap: ;)

 

Anyhoo - that Jesus fella came back to Earth one day to see what man had f*cked up in the last 2000 years since his demise but no-one believed it was him.

 

To prove it, he decided to walk across the river Thames in the time honoured fashion. He got a couple of paces across and promptly sunk.

 

When the on-lookers dragged him out one sceptic said "I thought you could walk on water - you did in the Bible stories...."

Not that I know the bible too well, has a couple of Jehovas witnesses knocking at the door tonight, mentioned to them that it states in the bible that Jesus said, "beware of false witnesses in my name", they fooked off in a right mood, couldnt understand it!!
