God Dam, Just about finished the Engine pull work, altho the dam engine is still in the car and the Tranny has 4 bolts left in the bell housing( and yes that includes the F*#cking top 2 :o(() had to knock off then to get back home in time. Everything else is sorted ,going back to finsih it off in a weeks time.

The General Topic here is : GOD DAM what a shitty job "Proffesional" Mechanics do to your car these days.

I am as most people are here somewhat paranoid about taking my car anywhere, so generally only take it too the most reputable places i can find. However looking at the tranny work that i recently had done i was APPAULED at the totall over all lack of quality. Here is just a short list of things that pissed me off :

Reverse indicator wire severed at trannsmission and Tied in a Knot around the Speed sensor wire !

Center Support Bearing - U joint Coupling Screws hopelessly over torqued or locktight fitted or something as i had over 700 lb/ft of torque on em and they still would move(nissan recommend 78MAX i think) , had to saw the CSB off and Super heat the screws to get them off in the end.

Tranny Bell housing bolts again hopeless over torqued in places and hand tight in others. One of them has sheared meaning a nice day of drilling and tapping ahead of me somewhere.

Driveshaft Heat shield secured with only 2.5 out of 6 bolts,

Shifter bracket bolt Welded very poorly on.

Sheared Exhaust bolts had been replaced with equally old and woefully under strength bolts .

That isn't even mentioning the state of the Spark plug and injector connectors. and even the oil filter was hideously over torqued.

So instead of just simply swapping turbos and Changing the odd component i think im goin to have to replace a large ammount of hardware /wiring and connectors also. which is a general pain in the ass, i think from now on i will only ever use "professional's" if im so severly short of time i can't do the job myself. which is often however i would sooner be without my car for a while than have it butchered in such a manner.

In short peep's think twice before you take your cars to places that aren't gonna take the care they should do of them.

I might take the time to point out that altho i dont allways trust nissan, as a whole the Jobs i have had done by them all seem to have been finished pretty well, dont take this as gossple tho!

have you not considered legal action against them. too many people these days just shrug it off and put shoddy workmanship down to a lesson learned. its high time these places were made to pay for for it can you imagine if you did your job to the standard of some of the work carried out on your car i for one know that i would be fired

Nick, I know exactly how you feel.

I took my old Z into a specialist auto gearbox company who removed the box, rebuilt it and reinstalled it.

I was then driving down the motorway on the day I collected the car when I suddenly lost power steering, speedo along with the hicas.

It was found that the repair centre left the speed sonsor wires hanging down and they welded themselves to the exhaust!

Quotation for the repair was £526 for new speed sonsor and wiring harness and the guess what the repair company said...

Yep.. it wasn't us!!

Dam Steve,

Sorry to hear that Steve, sounds exactly the same sorta thing.

I took piccies of the cable, tied around the tranny mount and speed sensor cable. I'll pass em on to the 300zx.co.uk lawyers.

Forgot to mention , got the Drive shaft outta the tranny and it has a big ass bent and burrs on the input shaft end, looks like some knuckle draggin primate has dropped it on its end some time in its life, im sure that is good for the balance. Not !

The place in question is GT Gearboxes in Notthigham btw so eveyone avoid like the plague.

Tooley, your right mate, If me and my kind did the job to the same standard as that yyour Delta Force sessions wouldn't be quiet so fufilling. :o)

It's the old story, If you want the job doing right, do it yourself!!

I don't suppose they thought you would know what the under neath of the car looked like and what was connected to what?

We ought to have an area with garages to avoid!

Where do you want me to start!

I have been shafted by so many garages. Yes sir, I know what i'm doing. I know this car like the back of my hand. BO&%*KS !!! do you.

Sorry, but this kind of thing really gets up my pipe

nice time to get me worried about my z

im still waiting to hear from rome in italy(my cars at a nissan garage) about what parts i need and it has been closer to two months since tehy have had the car.

then i hear that the mechanic who started the job was going to leave and wanted to take my car to his new shop of which i had never heard of.(like thts gonna happen)

its a total nightmare.

as far as im concerned if nissan make a balls up at tleast they have to fix it.

too right nico life without delta force is unthinkable after a hard days toil in the office wholesale slaughter is theraputic. you got any good releases out for the psx2 as jonny is giving me grief for only having four games for him to play on. main agents suck which is wrong really as they must know that all it takes is a few moans from disgruntled customers to nissan uk and they would be in deep kaka. having said that i have to say im more than happy with the bods at middlehursts on the job they did with my matrix it wasnt cheap but it was a good job

Heres a couple of examples that happened to people at work recently..

A bloke took his Micra for its major service at the main Nissan dealer, when he got it back 3 of the wheeltrims were held on with the old origional cable ties.So he goes back and asks them why they only took one wheel off, they of course denied this so when he points out the cable ties there answer was "Well we only take one wheel off because that give a general picture of what the other 3 are like." So this means if a disk is going to crack or a brake pipe is leaking then it will happen on all 4 wheels at once.

Another chap dropped his RS Turbo off at a garage to get some work done then as he stood at the bus stop to go home some 17 year old in greasy overalls demonstrated how to smoke the tyres whilst hitting the rev limiter for the entire length of the street.

Oh he was happy!

Sorry to hear of all the bad work you guys have had. I have been using Crawley Down Nissan for 9 years (West Sussex). In that time they have never let me down and are very professional, though not cheap. You get what you pay for I guess. They have two specialist 300ZX mechanics and a large number of 300ZX customers (both imports and non imports). Definately one to recommend.

Oh where can I see a pic of Nico's car (yeh I want to install driving lights, I know the subject has become a bore).

Cheers Bill M

Like Tooley I have no complaints about Middlehurst Nissan. Being going there for about 5 years - Once they get to know you there are a few things they will do for free too!! Not cheap though.

So,

Unless I've missed something, this is a case of....

"WHO, DONE IT"
