Hi all,

having a bit of a problem, and thought someone might be able to shed some light on the situation :)

My Zed won't go over 140. I've tried it with OD on and off! Took it to my Local Zed place (really helpful btw - Samurai Performance) and they kindly put the Conzult on it, did all the tests, came up Code 55. No history of errors either. He did a cylinder test and all that, things that I had no idea what it meant lol.

All that happens is that it gets to 140 bloody fast, then hits the rev limiter, the dump valves make a sound like a train lol as it hits the limiter. It feels like it needs another gear. Weird!

It's not like I do over 140 all the time but me and my pal in my Old Manual were having a little play with the Zeds last night and I just hit a brick wall at 140...

Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance! :D

The automatic ratios are: 1st 2.78, 2nd 1.54, 3rd 1.00, 4th 0.69, so results for the turbo are

(Maximum, as actual speeds will depend on torque converter slip):

Gear MPH RPM

1st 48 7200 Held in first

2nd 87 7200 Held in second

3rd 139 7200 Held in 3rd, overdrive off

4th 155 5500 with speed limiter

4th 178 6400 without speed limiter, not attainable by stock TT

4th 201 7200 intermittent theoretical, rev limited

Hmmm, so if your speedo is right-ish and the rev counter is at max, then you may be stuck in 3rd ...

Thanks Andy, seems I have no 4th Gear. Oh well, no big deal. Like I said I don't make a habit of it Dave

I was just worried it indicated a bigger problem with the gearbox...

If it was up to me I would put in a gearbox that didn't go over 140, but got their bloody quickly, sacrificing top end speed ;)

Hi kay,

I dont know what to say mate, Im really sorry you're having problems with the old girl...

Im also really confused, it just doesnt make sense that OD isnt working... for me it would always change up into 4th at 120mph not 140mph, maybe im going senile... :)

and if you're pootling around 4th definitly works cos if you click off OD it will noticibly change down a gear....

hope its a quick fix... whatever it is...

this also happened to my zed and it is sitting outside shagged waiting for a new box with the line pressure solenoid gone, dont know if i had two problems or if this was related. if delimited what mph should a zed hit

Don't worry Dave, sold as seen and it's not like it's a huge problem mate, compared to what could go wrong with these cars this is not that high up on the "oh shit this is gonna be expensive/annoying" list ;)

It came up code 55 on a Conzult so I couldn't ask for more than that really :)

De-limited? My Manual hit an indicated 182mph before I backed off, it still had some more in it but I shat my pants at that point...

(Disclaimer: this was on a private test track.)

Maybe it'll sort itself out like all my Zed problems seem to do lol

THE WIDE BODIED SUPRA SAMURAI DID

Is this the same car samurai built a complete bespoke kit for her, stored the car for six months whilst she found some wheels,

Then built the kit around them got it into primer then they had to move due to increased demand in their workload.

they have spent about 4 months creating a pukka workshop for their customers cars.

The supra kit as I’ve been told is a replica of the abflung 9 kit about 12,000 dollars plus 6000 dollars fitting they did her car for 6000 quid and had 6000 pounds worth of sponsorship in the car she didn’t want to wait 2 weeks for it to be painted as they were just finishing the body shop. She wanted to take it away then so they let her, loosing al rights to any sponsorship she had promised them,

By my books that calculates that samurai did the complete hand built sponsored kit in about one year, which as most projects go is not bad. Oh by the way samurai actually got her a set of 20" sponsored wheels free at the time they was doing the car but she didn’t want them and she wanted to buy her own so they waited and stored the car for her.,for six months.

The guy at samurai when asked told me she also hit a transit van in the car when she took in out from the workshop one day and they repaired this for nothing, in my books they must be bad people to do this lol. they showed me a picture of this.

ill be taking my 300 their again without a doubt, if any one has any doubts pop down to the work shop and they will talk you through it and show you pics.

Ps

i love speed.

no, just had my car done (timing belt) £290.00 + vat. not bad. drives like a dream.

i asked about a wide body kit for mine and they showed me pics and cars the've done and doing, the work was exellent they told me all about the supra and showed me the pics,

i trust them as i live in braintree and my know of them.

Which Zed have you got Mr Rush, any pics?

Welcome to the club!

I'm in Braintree too so must have seen you around mate :)

So far I know of a few, two Silver ones and a red one, and I saw a black one with decals all over it recently too.

Oh and for the record as I've previously stated the bodywork they've done for me was superb and I recommended them for that, and I said (and I quote) that it only takes one negative report to put doubt in your mind. Apparantly someone's been telling Martin that I've been slagging off Samurai... far from it! I was the one saying it looks like they are making an effort to make a good rep for themselves! As I have said, again, they did a brilliant job on my friends Cambelt and tinkered with it free of charge and it's now running superb. He owns my previous 300ZX.

ffs what's the world coming to?

Here's the link if Martin sees this

hope this clears things up... :(

it may be the 155mph limitter, the zed comes with 16 inch alloys as standard, if you fit different size wheels lets face it everyone does the speedo speed is different to the actual speed, the faster you go the more out it will be, you could well be goin 155 but speedo reading 140

Does car go - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, torque lock-up?

Mine does and it's easy to distinguish each gear as it comes in.

I also get all my work done at Redline. These guys all drive zeds and Scott is very helpful, very knowledgeable and very patient with dumbass non mechanical people like me....IMHO, I would not go anywhere else...

Thanks guys but it's all been sorted now, overdrive wasn't working for some reason, even though it indicated O/D off, but as I said it's fixed itself, can now go at silly speeds again (although I haven't pushed it yet, 182's quite fast enough for me and don't really want to go there again  ) the Zed's love to keep you guessing don't they? :headvswal lol

MR RUSH - :nono: your Darren from Samurai

This is probably just what you’re talking about (Didn’t have time to read all replies) but doesn’t the stock Z (at least the ones originally imported to Finland) have a limiter which makes it impossible to go over 240kph (146mph)? This is at least what I've been told.. As I said I didn’t read the all replies, and someone probably already said this. :)
